The basis of any alginate mask is made up of two important components.

  1. Diatomite – layers of petrified underwater marine plants interspersed with particles of the most ancient armored ones.

Alginate masks contain other valuable components.

  • Hyaluronic acid retains moisture in skin cells.

  • Vitamin C brightens, has a general antioxidant and anti-aging effect.

  • Charcoal cleanses pores.

  • Aloe is soothing.

  • Green tea has antibacterial properties.

What is the difference between an alginate mask and an aldehyde mask?

Many users are concerned about the question of whether there is a difference between alginate and aldehyde masks. Our expert Maria Nevskaya warns that it is alginate masks that are often mistakenly called “aldehyde masks” on the Internet.

Types of alginate masks

There are two types of alginate masks: in powder form and in gel form.

As we have already said, the composition of the alginate mask includes alginate and diatomaceous earth. One of the features of alginate is that when combined with a liquid, it turns into a gel. When applied, the substance adheres tightly to the surface of the skin, and when solidified, it has a lifting effect. Alginate masks differ in the form of release.

Powdered

The powder is diluted with water, the resulting composition is immediately applied to the skin and kept on the face until completely solidified. It usually takes about 15-20 minutes.

Gel or jelly

There are alginate masks in the form of a gel. They are also extremely effective and do not require pre-cooking.

Alginate masks also differ in the method of exposure. To date, there are such types of alginate masks:

  • moisturizing – their composition includes hyaluronic acid, urea, chitosan;

  • nutritious – such masks provide everything necessary for dry skin and have a noticeable lifting effect;

  • brightening – as a rule, they include vitamin C, which evens out skin color and brightens age spots;

  • cleansing – masks with aloe, extracts of chamomile, cucumber, calendula, etc. cleanse the skin of toxins, nourish it with beneficial substances.

Why is an alginate mask useful and why?

The main purpose of the alginate mask is to restore the skin to a fresh look, to free it from toxins. The face acquires a pleasant color and, as it were, is illuminated from the inside. Immediately after application, the lifting effect is also noticeable – the contours of the face become clearer, wrinkles are smoothed out. This happens not only due to the active ingredients, but also due to the tightening process itself, when the mask turns into a fairly dense film.

How to use alginate face mask

Before using the mask, you must read the instructions to avoid unpleasant surprises. First of all, you need to clean your face well.
  1. Wash with warm water using your usual cleansers: gel, foam or mousse. If desired, you can carry out an intensive skin cleansing procedure using peeling or scrub.

  2. Apply a toner or moisturizer to your face.

  3. Dilute the powder in a container with water – so that there are no lumps.

  4. Apply the mask to the entire face with a brush or hands.

  5. Lie down and try to relax completely, excluding any facial expressions.

  6. After the mask has hardened, carefully remove it, starting from the chin with an upward movement. The thicker the layer of the mask, the easier it should be removed. If the mask layer is too thin, it may tear, but this does not affect anything.

Before applying any mask, including alginate, it is necessary to prepare the skin for the procedure.
