Seaweed abounds in nutrients, because they grow in the “cradle of life” – the ocean. Their unique medicinal properties have been tested for centuries. Algae were actively used in their beauty rituals by the queen and the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. Now this “elixir of youth” is available to mere mortals.

Why seaweed is useful for skin beauty

There are tens of times more minerals and vitamins in algae than in the healthiest fruits and vegetables. Algae contain a large amount of magnesium, iron, sodium, calcium, potassium, iodine, phosphorus, selenium, fluorine. They are a good source of many vitamins – E, C, B6, B2 and B12. There is plenty of iodine and retinol in algae. The latter helps the skin to remain young and beautiful for a long time.

Algae is an excellent skin moisturizer. They contain alginic acid, which has the ability to hold water almost 300 times its own volume.

Algae are a good natural antibiotic. They contain many anti-inflammatory components that suppress pathogenic microflora on the skin surface. In particular, algae inhibit the growth of propionic bacteria, the culprit for acne on the skin.

Regular cosmetic procedures based on algae will help to activate the work of skin cells, its active hydration, nutrition and regeneration. Algae masks deserve special attention.

What algae to choose for a mask

Algae are different: red, brown, green, blue-green. Despite their common origin, they differ in their composition and cosmetic effect.

Kelp boasts a lot of iodine and excellent disinfectant properties. Masks based on them are suitable for owners of problem skin. The prominent representatives of this group of algae are fucus and kelp, also known as seaweed.

If you live far from the sea, it doesn’t matter. Now algae can be easily found in the pharmacy.

Blue-green algae, due to the composition, saturated with micro- and macroelements, have an intense rejuvenating effect. Masks with them will help lift the skin. The well-known spirulina belongs to this group.

Red algae contain a lot of fatty acids and protein. These include lithotamnium and porphyry. Masks based on them nourish the skin well.
