Sometimes the best way to overcome anxiety is to give yourself permission to make mistakes.
“I entered the musical Chicago later than the rest of the performers. And I was suddenly seized with fear — as if I was going on stage for the first time. I was afraid to do something wrong, I was terribly clamped. At that moment, Hakob Khacharyan, our wonderful pianist, turned out to be next to me, who, noticing that I was getting cold with excitement, joked: “Nothing, and not such shows were filled up.” And for some reason I calmed down, everything fell into place. It may seem that in this phrase some kind of negligent attitude towards what we are doing comes through. But it’s not. Jitters arise precisely because of the high bar, because of the sense of responsibility to the audience, to colleagues. When I really know everything, only one thing is missing — to send everything to hell in order to feel the necessary drive. You can even afford to make a mistake. Now I go on stage in a completely different way and I understand: if something happens, we will always get out, we will find some kind of hooligan, incredible way out of the situation. I think that it is very important in any business — to believe in yourself and not be afraid to make mistakes. Then you are the winner.»
