history of the holiday
In fact, this holiday is not at all a call to celebrate it by drinking alcoholic beverages. People who conquered alcoholism fought against it for a long time, having experienced great hardships from their illness – loss of health, social status and position in society, causing moral, and often physical damage to themselves, their families and loved ones. The work done to get rid of this addiction is truly enormous. All over the world there are special centers that help in treatment, rehabilitation programs, supportive therapy. Many celebrities who have recovered from this disease do charity work for such hospitals, realizing what invaluable help they provide for those who are faced with alcoholism.
In Our Country, this day is often equated with September 11, the day the first faceted glass was produced back in 1943. Goose Khrustalny is considered its homeland, and the creator is Vera Mukhina, she is also the author of the composition “Worker and Collective Farm Girl”. There is an opinion among art historians that Kazimir Malevich suggested the idea of a glass to the creator. Faceted glass became incredibly popular due to its qualities – a wide, smooth ring at the top of the glass gave it high strength, and therefore it was very difficult to break it. So, it began to be used in public catering and on the railway, which eventually turned out to be a symbol not only of alcoholics, but also of Soviet canteens and long-distance travels to the sound of a glass in a glass holder.
Faceted glasses began to be used even under Peter the Great, but their appearance was different from what we are used to. The technical parameters of a glass from the USSR are not accidental. It is believed that this shape was created for ease of use in the first dishwasher, which was developed shortly before. In addition, this form was distinguished by increased strength, which was necessary for catering. A standard glass usually has 16 sides. It is very rare to find an odd number of faces (for example, 17), but it was technically inconvenient to produce such glasses. It cost from 7 to 14 kopecks, the price was indicated at the bottom by squeezing.
Holiday traditions
It would seem that the very name of the holiday already contains a call to celebrate and even tells how. But, in fact, more and more often this day is announced by many for themselves as a day of sobriety. You can gather with friends and have fun, but without strong drinks. You can go skiing in the forest or go fishing, and take tea in a thermos as a warming drink, and at home parties, replace alcohol with home-made lemonade.
You can go further and spend the holiday not only soberly, but also with great health benefits – go in for sports, meditative practices, eat only the right food all day, and celebrate the evening of the holiday with a vitamin cocktail.
According to WHO, today the disease has become much younger and has assumed rampant proportions. The transition from one stage to another has also been reduced, and therefore it has become more difficult to identify the problem. Many young people ruin their lives by exposing themselves to this danger. Therefore, try to celebrate the holidays soberly, reducing alcohol consumption to a minimum or completely abandoning it. And if you feel that you or your loved ones cannot refuse and this becomes a problem, contact special medical centers where the necessary assistance will be provided.
