Cider is a low-alcohol (2-7%) often carbonated apple or pear wine. Usually it is drunk cold, but in winter I advise you to prepare a warming hot cider. It will turn out a drink that resembles mulled wine, but with a milder taste. We will look at a universal recipe that can be used to make a classic (1-3% ABV), non-alcoholic and strong hot cider with whiskey.
Any apple cider or cider from another juice will do, both cheap store-bought and homemade. The amount and composition of spices can be changed at your discretion, and sugar can be used instead of honey. Hot cider with whiskey and whipped cream (the last step in the recipe) will appeal to lovers of strong alcohol.
To prepare a non-alcoholic version, it is enough to replace the cider with apple juice.
Ingredients:
- anchor – 2 liters;
- honey – 5-6 tablespoons;
- orange – 1 joke;
- apple – 1 piece;
- cinnamon – 2 sticks;
- clove buds – 2 teaspoons;
- allspice – half a teaspoon;
- whiskey – 200 ml (optional);
- whipped cream – 50 ml (optional).
Universal Hot Cider Recipe
1. Cut the orange into thin circles. Cut the apple in half, remove the core and pits.
2. Stick cloves into apple pulp.
3. Pour cider into a saucepan, add honey, mix.
4. Heat over medium heat to 65-70°C, when steam and the first bubbles appear, reduce the heating power to a minimum.
Hot cider should not be brought to a boil!
5. Add oranges, apples and spices.
6. Cook for 10 minutes over low heat, stirring constantly.
7. Remove from heat, cover with a lid, leave for 10 minutes.
You get a classic hot cider, it can be strained through cheesecloth, poured into mugs and served. The alcohol content is 1-3% (when heated, the alcohol evaporates).
8. To increase the strength, add whiskey, mix, then pour into mugs and top with whipped cream.
