As a rule, alcohol is diluted in two cases. Either they are trying to get vodka in this way, or they plan to make tinctures or compresses on the resulting liquid. To obtain a high-quality final product, it is necessary to follow the technology of mixing liquids.
There are five “grades” of alcohol:
- medical alcohol
- anhydrous lux (96,3%)
- extra (96,5%)
- high purity alcohol (96,2%)
- first grade alcohol (96%)
The highest purity alcohol, despite the name, is suitable only as a basis for the preparation of external medicines.
If you plan to use diluted alcohol as vodka, then dilute the “extra” and higher grades
Prepare distilled water, it can be bought in the store or evaporated at home, kitchen scales and containers, preferably made of transparent glass, so that you can observe the processes. Arm yourself with a Fertman table, it will help you calculate the required strength of the final product.
It is believed that you need to mix two parts of alcohol with three parts of water in their weight ratio, i.e. when calculating, you need to operate not with the volumes of liquids, but with their weight.
Never pour water into alcohol. You need to dilute water with alcohol!
Pour the required amount of water into a glass vessel, and then slowly pour in the prepared alcohol in a thin stream. Take your time or gurgle, or the liquid will quickly become cloudy.
Do not be alarmed if the solution still darkens. Most likely, you used water that is oversaturated with minerals. Throw 4-6 tablets of activated charcoal into the liquid and leave for a couple of hours, then strain through cheesecloth folded in several layers.
Diluted alcohol must be left alone for 5-7 days in a dark and cool room. During this time, the chemical reaction will complete, the liquid will settle.
If you plan to make drinking tinctures at home, it is advisable to soften the diluted alcohol. To do this, use glucose, orange juice, sugar, or honey. After adding the product of your choice, the liquid should “rest” again, this time 24 hours is enough. Healing tinctures can be made from the obtained soft alcohol, but first you need to calculate the percentage of alcohol. To do this, use a household alcohol meter.
You can make a tincture of red root. Buy root powder at the pharmacy (usually sold in 150 ml jars or in 70 gram sachets), pour it into a glass container and pour 0,5 liters of prepared 40-50 percent alcohol. No need to chat or interfere.
Try, without disturbing the solution, to put it in a dark, cool place for at least 14 days.
After two weeks, strain the tincture through folded gauze. You should get a liquid of a noble burgundy color. Light sediment is allowed.
For pep, a tincture of zamanihi is prepared. The rhizomes of the plant should be insisted on 70% alcohol for 2-3 weeks. Zamaniha and alcohol should be taken in a 5: 1 ratio. They say that the lure copes well with depression and hypotension, but remember that alcohol consumption, even in the form of tinctures, must be dosed.
A tincture of young nettle helps to cope with broken knees and shallow abrasions. This, of course, is not an iodine solution, but the disinfecting properties are no worse. Fill a quart jar with young nettles tightly and top with 70 percent alcohol. After a week, pour the liquid into a bottle with a tight cap. Compresses can also be made from nettle tincture, but in order to avoid burns on the skin, the tincture will need to be diluted.
Compresses made from tincture of flowers and leaves of yarrow also have life-giving power, they tighten wounds and help well with burns and bruises, when applied together with an iodine mesh
For tincture, use 40% alcohol, for 1 liter of alcohol you need 2 cups of dried flowers.
