Are you on a 1000 or 1500 calorie diet and still not losing weight? Perhaps the problem lies in weekend outings. Did you know that one visit to the bar can add up to several thousand calories to your daily diet?
Being on a diet, we focus mainly on what we eat and what we should avoid. We pay less attention to drinks, and alcohol is least often taken into account when planning a diet. It’s a mistake. Alcohol is one of the most caloric substances next to sugar and fat. An additional problem is the fact that while many of us can limit the consumption of sweets or fats to reasonable doses, during weekend meetings with friends we are often able to consume several drinks at once.
Killer drinks
The most caloric alcohol is vodka. Just a glass is enough to add over 100 calories to your diet! What’s worse, we rarely drink vodka alone. Most often we drink it with carbonated drinks, which are real calorie bombs. Sometimes we also reach for fancy drinks, and their caloric content often equals desserts! Kahlua with coconut milk, White Russian or Caipirinha can have up to 300-400 calories. If we reach for four drinks of this type in one evening, it turns out that in a few hours we provided the body with as much as we ate throughout the day.
Beer belly
Beer is equally treacherous. Although 100 ml contains less than 50 calories, hardly anyone reaches for such a small dose, because the standard portion is half a liter. So if we drink three beers during the evening, it will be 750 calories, which is as much as a two-course dinner with soup and pork chop. It is worth remembering that the less alcohol in beer, the less calories, so if you want to enjoy this drink, it is worth choosing lighter versions.
Wine with sugar
A glass of wine contains about 150 calories, so half a bottle will provide us with about 400 calories. This is not much compared to other alcohols, but we still have to remember a few rules. Dry and semi-dry wine will be the least caloric. Sweet can have up to 5 tablespoons of sugar in a glass, so it is better to stay away from it on a diet.
