Albariños de Mar de Frades

The Bodegas Mar de Frades are an excellent showcase of the fusion of the marine environment and the terroir.

To speak of Wine in the northwest of the peninsula is to speak mainly of Albariño, grape and wine associated with the DO Rías Baixas Wine Denomination of Origin.

Throughout the Salnés valley, the Condado do Tea or the Rosal climate, land and vine come together, to result in one of the best white wines that can be made.

There in the province of Pontevedra is the Mar de Frades winery, which since 2007 has produced in its new facilities the precious wines that are recognized every day among the best of their class.

The Finca Valiñas vineyard is a sample of the excellent production that, watered by rainwater and accompanied by the Atlantic breezes, results in an Albariño grape of excellent quality for the elaboration of its wines.

Its image of a ship, but this one in the mountains, resides throughout its history, its winery and especially the wines, integrating in its elaborations the Sea with the blue color of its containers and the land with the clear interior of its fermented.

The wines of Mar de Frades

In these days before spring, the new vintage of its flagship, the Albariño Mar de Frades 2016, which is presented as a complex, luminous and saline marine wine.

The new vintage stands out for its radiant fine lemon color, with reflections of seaweed inviting us to discover the aromas of loquat or apricot, which coexist in the essence of almond blossoms with certain tropical touches.

A Wine that seduces and above all conquers in its passage through the mouth, with a salty character that mixes the flavors of orange jam and aromatic herbs.

Another of its wines, the exclusive Finca Valiñas, has been recognized and awarded in the recent celebration of the Bacchus Wine Contest, organized by the Spanish Union of Tasters, in which it has won the highest distinction in the 2017 edition, obtaining the Gold medal and a score higher than the 92 points.

It is one of the 15 Spanish wines awarded at the event and stands out among the thousands of products that were presented at the event from geographical wine regions of Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Slovakia, Spain, United States, France , Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Principality of Andorra, Czech Republic, Romania, Tunisia, Turkey and Uruguay.

The award is in addition to the important awards already received for wine in different national and international competitions, such as those achieved in the Challenge International du Vin 2016, obtaining the silver medal, or the bronzes awarded by International Wine Challenge 2016 y Decanter World Wine Awards Asia 2016.

In short, an elegant and spectacular wine from which only 6000 bottles are made, with a careful fermentation process and 50% aged in steel tanks and in new French oak barrels for 6 months.
