Alantan cream is an over-the-counter preparation that is used by people struggling with various ailments and skin injuries. Alantan cream has a protective and nourishing effect, and is also effective in treating minor skin lesions. What are the indications and contraindications for the use of the preparation? Can Alantan cream have any side effects?
Alantan cream – composition and action
Alantan cream is a preparation that is applied topically to the skin. It is a cream that supports wound healing, nourishes and protects the skin. The formula of Alantan cream is based on two active substances, i.e. dexpanthenol (Dexpanthenolum) and allantoin (Allantoinum).
Dexpanthenol is an alcohol analog of pantothenic acid, which belongs to the group of vitamins B and is a component of coenzyme A. Pantothenic acid plays an important role in the processes of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, and is also involved in the synthesis of some hormones and neurotransmitters. This acid supports skin regeneration, accelerates wound healing, soothes itching and irritation, and also has anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, it has moisturizing properties for the skin and at the same time increases its elasticity.
The second active ingredient, i.e. allantoin is keratolytic (exfoliating action). It inhibits the excessive deposition of keratin, accelerates wound healing, protects and moisturizes the skin as well as stimulates the growth of new tissue. Alantan cream is intended for topical application to the skin.

Alantan cream – compared to other preparations in the case of diaper dermatitis
Diaper dermatitis (PZS) is one of the most common skin diseases in infants. Due to the increase in humidity under the baby’s diaper, the chances of immature skin of a newborn or infant are increasing, resulting in exposure to irritants that are common in this area, such as urine or faeces. Gentle washing, frequent diaper changes and the use of barrier creams to rebuild the barrier help prevent relapses.
In one of the studies, an attempt was made to assess the care properties and tolerance of various formulations, including Alantan, which is used in infants and young children in cases of moderate forms of diaper dermatitis.
The research was conducted from May to August 2008, simultaneously in 6 research centers, in a group of 140 children (70 girls, 70 boys) aged from 1 month to 3 years of age (diaper period), diagnosed with PZ due to irritation. with moderate severity of skin lesions (between 4 and 7 points according to the scale created for the purpose of the study). In doubtful cases, in order to exclude bacterial or yeast etiology, bacterial cultures as well as direct microscopic examinations and mycological cultures were performed.
The results of the research have shown that alanthan is effective compared to other preparations in cases of PZ with moderate severity of skin lesions.

The action of alanthan also influences the opinions that appear. They are not unequivocally positive or negative. Many people describe their experiences in acne forums. In some cases this has proved to be very effective and in others unfortunately it has not. Therefore, it is best to try Alantan for yourself.
However, keep in mind that this is not a cure for this disease, but a product that improves the appearance of scars and blemishes. Tests have proven that Alantan works great as a skin moisturizer and firmer.
