Aknemycin is a drug that can be used for all forms of acne vulgaris, especially inflammatory forms, with the presence of papules and pimples.

Aknemycin – action

Aknemycin is a drug containing in its composition erythromycin bacteriostatic effect on all microorganisms important for the formation of acne vulgaris, in particular on Propionibacteriumacnes (i.e. Corynebacteriumacnes). Erythromycin not only has the properties of inhibiting lipid breakdown on the skin surface, but also has anti-inflammatory effects. Also affects bacteria: Micrococcusspp. and Staphylococcusspp. Aknemycin in the form of a liquid, it contains alcohol, which increases the antibacterial effect erythromycin and dissolves the sebum. It shows a similar effect Aknemycin in the form of an ointment that engages in the process of crushing sebum particles.

Erythromycin does not penetrate the skin in significant amounts. Even after many weeks of using the preparation on large surfaces, it was not found in the blood serum. This is because erythromycin directly penetrates the sebaceous glands and exerts a bacteriostatic effect there.

Aknemycin – dosage

Aknemycin should use externally, usually twice a day. In the morning and in the evening, a thin layer of the preparation should be applied to the affected skin. Aknemycin in the form of a liquid, it should be applied directly to the skin with a special applicator. On the other hand Aknemycin in the form of an ointment, requires that the skin is washed with lukewarm water and dried well before applying the preparation. In most patients, a marked improvement can be seen after four weeks. District application however, it should not exceed 4-6 weeks. The ointment and lotion can be used use for a change.

Aknemycin – contraindications

The drug Aknemycin you shouldn’t use in case of hypersensitivity to erythromycin or to any of the excipients. The ointment is not allowed use in the breast area while breastfeeding to prevent the infant from coming into contact with the medicine.

Aknemycin – precautions

Included Aknemycin ointments Cetostearyl alcohol can cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis). Therefore, avoid contact of the preparation with the eyes.

Aknemycin – pregnancy and lactation

Before taking the drug during pregnancy and lactation please consult your doctor. Lek Aknemycin can be used by pregnant women due to the fact that erythromycin applied to the skin, it does not enter the body in significant amounts. Presentation side effects in utero is unlikely to occur. The preparation can be used by breastfeeding women, but care should be taken that the infant’s mouth does not come into contact with the treated body surface.

Aknemycin – side effects

In rare cases, at the beginning using Aknemycin ointment mild erythema or slight peeling of the epidermis may occur. However, in the case of application of the liquid, dryness, redness, burning sensation and itching of the skin may appear (then treatment with the use of an ointment preparation can be continued). In individual cases, the symptoms described above may occur in the course of a hypersensitivity reaction (allergic contact eczema). Use ointment or lotion over a long period of time may exacerbate the lesions due to the development of bacterial resistance and / or may lead to gram-negative folliculitis.
