The Dukan diet is very popular. On the Internet and among friends, we can meet many people who used this type of diet and lost a lot of weight thanks to it. Nevertheless, this way of losing weight also has serious disadvantages, among which the main ones are digestive problems, burdening the kidneys, or liver damage. Is it really worth using?
It causes a large weight loss in a relatively short time. Its basic principle is the consumption of large amounts of protein: granular cheese, liters of kefir, chicken breast. Many people reach for it completely uncritically, not paying attention to the fact that it deprives us of many other important nutritional values.
The assumptions of a rational diet clearly state that the daily food ration of an adult should include:
- 15% protein,
- 60% carbohydrates,
- 25% fat.
In the case of the Dukan diet, the main component taken is protein, which constitutes the majority of the daily food ration. Unfortunately, taking only one type of nutrient, and in excess, will have poor consequences for the health and condition of our body.
Benefits of the Dukan Diet
- The consumption of highly processed products, such as fast food, ready meals, sweets and sugar, is dramatically decreasing.
- It gives a quick effect, i.e. we lose most of our body weight in a relatively short time.
- It improves the condition of our skin as a result of the increased intake of animal protein and collagen.
Cons of the Dukan Diet
- not feeling well,
- high salt intake,
- No variety. A healthy diet is a varied diet that provides all the nutrients in the right proportions,
- Too much protein intake, which can burden the body,
- Disturbance of acid-base balance, strong acidification of the body,
- Loss of calcium with the urine (this promotes the formation of osteoporosis),
- Digestive disorders, promoting joint diseases,
- Too much cholesterol
- Lack of fiber in the diet – it causes chronic constipation,
- Stress on the kidneys, which can damage them
- Vitamin deficiencies, because this diet eliminates cereal products (whole grains) and groats, which contain the necessary vitamins C, B and PP, as well as zinc, selenium and copper.
- Impaired liver function – toxic metabolites accumulate in the body,
- Lack of consumption of digestible carbohydrates in the first and second stages, which weakens muscle strength, brain function, and causes concentration disorders. The effect of weight loss is primarily the loss of water in the body.
