Adipomastie

Adipomastie

Adipomastia is an anatomical variant characterized by the formation of breasts in men. This condition is benign but can be operated on because of the complexes it can generate.

What is adipomastia?

Definition

Adipomastia is a benign condition in men which means an increase in breast size by an accumulation of fat in the pectorals. Unlike glandular gynecomastia, adipomastia is only fatty: the mammary glands are normal in size.

Causes

Gynecomastia is often a sign of a hormonal imbalance between estrogen and androgen. Estrogens, so-called “female” hormones present in greater numbers cause the appearance of a more developed breast in men.

Nevertheless, adipomastia (fatty gynecomastia) often results from being overweight or from a change in weight (weight loss or gain).

Diagnostic

The doctor makes the diagnosis according to three criteria:

  • the supple aspect of the chest;
  • the absence of a nucleus behind the areola on palpation;
  • confirmation by breast ultrasound.

The people concerned

People affected by adipomastia are overweight men.

Symptoms of adipomastia

The symptoms of adipomastia are the same as those assessed by the doctor when diagnosed:

  • a soft chest
  • a developed breast without a developed mammary gland
  • onset during or after adolescence, or as a result of weight change

Being a benign condition, adipomastia does not have other symptoms.

Treatment of adipomastia

Adipomastia is not a pathology, so there is no treatment to remedy it. However, this condition can generate complexes. Young men concerned can turn to bodybuilding and / or surgery.

Musculation

Men who wish to lose fat in the pectorals can perform “dry” type weight training exercises associated with a diet in order to lose fat mass throughout the body.

surgery

For fat resistant to bodybuilding, it is possible to perform liposuction.

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery operation performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the possibilities and desires of the patient.

The doctor puts very fine needles under the skin and sucks up the fatty mass. The operation lasts half an hour.

The patient should observe 2-3 weeks of rest after the operation.

Prevent adipomastia

Adipomastia most often results from overweight linked to too rich a diet. In this context, it will be necessary to favor a balanced diet and regular physical exercise.

Note: many young men suffer from complexes related to adipomastia in adolescence. The distribution of fat is not fixed in adolescence, a consultation with the surgeon is not necessarily necessary.
