Turkey is famous for its love of tea and its many varieties. What types of tea you will not be offered here: ordinary black, but brewed so unusual for us that its taste is also strikingly different from such a familiar drink to everyone, both fruit and herbal. The brewing process for each type of tea is a real ritual aimed at maximizing the natural taste properties of the brewed tea.
Ada tea is especially popular in Turkey. Ada is a Turkish herb, known in our latitudes as sage. Hell grows on dry mountain slopes, and plants collected during the flowering period are used for brewing. The aromatic smell, pleasant, slightly spicy taste make the drink extremely popular. In addition, ada tea also has medicinal properties. In terms of its medicinal properties, hell is also very close to sage.
It is recommended to use it for colds, tonsillitis, to facilitate breathing and as an anti-inflammatory agent. Ada tea is also useful for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The drink has a tonic effect, and also reduces perspiration, which in hot climates is a significant plus in favor of its use.
In ancient times, it was believed that the regular use of infusion of ada tea allows a woman to recover from infertility.
As with any other drink, there is a separate brewing ritual for hell tea. In Turkey, tea is drunk from pear-shaped glass glasses without a handle. Ada tea is brewed directly in them, without the use of additional teapots and brewing devices.
To brew one cup of tea, one cone of ada tea is used, which is usually stored in the form of dried bouquets – the twig is simply separated from the rest and placed in a glass. Then pour it with a small amount of boiling water to wash off the pollen from the bump. In this boiling water, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the plant, and drain the water. Only after that, ada tea is poured with boiling water and allowed to brew for 5-10 minutes. Most often, ada tea is drunk neat or with lemon.
In Turkey, tea is very much appreciated, there is even a special profession of chaiji, which is honorable. This person brews and serves tea.
Sometimes ada tea is brewed in a two-tier teapot. The ritual takes up to half an hour, and today it is rarely reproduced in full. Therefore, in cities you can see how ada tea is placed in the upper tier of a teapot, water is poured into the lower tier and put on fire.
If you decide to try ada tea, it is important to remember that like any medicinal plant, it has a number of contraindications. First of all, ada tea is categorically contraindicated for pregnant women, since it stimulates the production of estrogen and thus, can provoke a miscarriage. It should also be borne in mind that in lactating women, ada tea reduces milk production, so you should also refuse to drink it, unless, of course, reducing the amount of milk is not your goal.
