Contact lenses are a great choice for anyone who needs vision correction and does not want to wear glasses or undergo laser vision correction surgery.
The choice of lenses should be based – in addition to, of course, the right choice of power and wearing mode – primarily on the selection of the appropriate material from which the lenses are made. There are five types of lenses on the market that differ in terms of material:
- soft (hydrogel) lenses – made of a gel-like plastic called a hydrogel. These lenses are very thin and flexible. They were introduced in the early 70s and gained great popularity during that time due to the comfort of wearing;
- rigid gas permeable contact lenses – as the name suggests, the material they are made of allows oxygen to pass through them, making them comfortable. Additionally, they are porous, increasing the supply of oxygen. These lenses provide high visual acuity;
- acrylic lenses – made of hard polymer (acrylic, the popular “plexiglass”). They have excellent optics, but are airtight, making them difficult to adapt. They are partially considered obsolete – gas permeable lenses replaced them in the 70s;
- silicone hydrogel lenses – are an advanced type of contact lenses. They have a porous structure that allows more oxygen to enter the cornea of the eye. They are one of the most popular types of lenses on the market. Acuvue Oasys lenses are made of this material.

Acuvue Oasys – two-week, one-day and astigmatic lenses
Acuvue Oasys lenses come in two forms when it comes to how you wear them. They can be used in a one-day mode, in which the lenses are used only once. They usually provide the greatest comfort of wearing and use (we do not have to worry about rinsing the lenses with liquid). Other lenses are Acuvue Oasys two-week lenses, the use-by date of which is 14 days after the first application. Such lenses are more comfortable than monthly lenses and require daily care. Lenses are also cylindrical for people suffering from astigmatism. Often, astigmatic lenses require you to order exactly the specified lens parameters from the store.
