Acute tonsillitis can take the form of acute rhinitis – inflammation of the palatine tonsils and the adjacent pharyngeal mucosa.
The cause of the disease is infection with a virus. Symptoms include a sore throat that gets worse when swallowing and a fever.
Home treatment: similar to acute rhinitis. Usually it improves and heals after 48-72 hours. The persistence of the disease or its exacerbation indicates a bacterial infection and the need for specialist treatment.
