Indications for the use of activated carbon
Dosage of activated carbon for children
In most cases, activated charcoal is prescribed at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight. It should be given to the child 3-4 times a day until the symptoms of the disease completely disappear. With diarrhea and flatulence, as a rule, a single dose of the drug is sufficient, but in case of poisoning, allergies, dyspepsia and intoxication, the duration of treatment can reach 10-14 days.
A baby who is unable to swallow a pill is given the medicine in the form of an aqueous suspension. You can prepare it by crushing the tablet to a powdery state and mixing it with 50-100 ml of warm water. Drink activated charcoal one hour before meals. In addition, it is important to ensure that the time of taking the drug does not coincide with the time of taking other drugs.
In case of poisoning, activated carbon dissolved in water can be used for gastric lavage. The procedure is best carried out in a hospital under the supervision of specialists, however, while waiting for an ambulance, you can provide emergency assistance to the baby yourself. To do this, you should offer him to drink 100-150 ml of water suspension of coal, and then provoke vomiting by pressing clean fingers on the root of the tongue.
With long-term treatment with activated charcoal, the child may experience constipation and abdominal pain. In addition, the drug can interfere with the absorption of fats, vitamins and other nutrients. That is why the course treatment with activated carbon is best done only when urgently needed and only under the supervision of a doctor.
