Actitrin

Actitrin is a drug used in inflammation of the upper respiratory tract (flu, colds). The drug is a combined preparation that has a morphine derivative with a central antitussive effect. Actitrin has an antitussive effect, inhibits the sneezing reflex and reduces nasal congestion. The preparation is in the form of a syrup and is dispensed without a prescription.

Actitrin – indications and dosage

Actitrin is a syrup recommended for taking in inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, such as:

  1. cold,
  2. flu,
  3. cough,
  4. swelling of the mucosa and runny nose.

Drug dosage

Actitrin is a syrup to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Adults and children after 12 years of age 10 ml 3-4 times / day, not more frequently than every 6 hours.
  2. Children 7-12. 5 ml 3-4 times / day, no more frequently than every 6 hours.

Actitrin and contraindications

There are a number of contraindications to taking Actitrin, including:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. use of MAO inhibitors in parallel or during the last 2 weeks,
  3. respiratory failure and the risk of its occurrence,
  4. bronchial asthma,
  5. asthmatic cough
  6. cough with a lot of discharge
  7. severe liver or kidney failure,
  8. severe arterial hypertension,
  9. severe ischemic heart disease,
  10. the period of breastfeeding,
  11. use by children in the first year of life.

Actitrin – warnings

  1. If, despite treatment with the drug, symptoms persist for more than 3 days, are accompanied by fever, headache or rash, appropriate treatment should be administered.
  2. Within 2 weeks of stopping taking MAO inhibitors, do not take the preparation.
  3. While using the preparation, you should not take hypnotics and sedatives, which inhibit the central nervous system.
  4. You should not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  5. Patients with: hyperthyroidism, prostatic hyperplasia, glaucoma, heart disease, increased intraocular pressure, diabetes, hypertension or liver disease should take Actitrin with caution.
  6. People with a sick liver, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain damage, as well as pregnant women and children, should take into account that the drug contains 3% alcohol (5 ml of the preparation contains 181 mg of alcohol).
  7. Pregnant women may only take the drug after consulting a doctor.
  8. Actitrin may affect the ability to drive motor vehicles, therefore you should not drive during the treatment.

Actitrin with other drugs

  1. The use of Actitrin simultaneously with MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks of completing the treatment increases their effect and may lead to collapse, coma, high blood pressure and fever.
  2. The preparation in combination with drugs acting on the central nervous system and drugs with anticholinergic activity may increase their effect.
  3. The effects of antihypertensive drugs: bretylium, betanidine, guanethidine, debrisoquine, methyldopa and alpha and beta adrenergic blockers may be reduced.
  4. Simultaneous administration of Actitrin with quinidine may inhibit the metabolism of the drug in the drug, increasing its concentration in the blood, which ultimately worsens the side effects.
  5. Concomitant use of Actitrin with the following drugs: mucosal vasoconstrictor drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, appetite suppressants, and amphetamine-like psychotropic drugs may lead to an increase in blood pressure.

Actitrin – side effects

Taking Actitrin may lead to the following side effects:

  1. somnolence,
  2. dizziness,
  3. fatigue,
  4. sleep disturbances,
  5. rarely hallucinations,
  6. abnormal heart rhythm (tachycardia),
  7. constipation
  8. diarrhea
  9. nausea,
  10. vomiting,
  11. urinary retention,
  12. painful urination
  13. dry mouth and nasopharynx
  14. allergic reactions in the form of: rash, itching, hives, bronchospasm, shortness of breath.
