Acquired coagulopathies – what is it, symptoms, treatment

Syn .: Acquired blood coagulation disorders.

Def .: Blood coagulation disorders occurring in the course of various diseases and pathological conditions. Coagulation disorders due to vitamin K deficiency, coagulation disorders in liver diseases, pathological coagulation inhibitors and acquired deficiencies of one clotting factor.

Epid .: They occur in both sexes.

Clinical: Bleeding from the nose and gums, subcutaneous haemorrhages, haematuria, gastrointestinal and trauma bleeding.

DL: In vitamin K deficiency: prolonged PT, normal or slightly prolonged APTT, normal TT and bleeding times. In liver diseases: prolonged PT time, decreased activity of factor V and VII with normal or increased activity of factor VIII, thrombocytopenia.

But: In blood coagulation disorders caused by vitamin K deficiency, treatment consists of administering vitamin K1. In liver diseases, the treatment of coagulation disorders consists in the transfusion of frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate and vitamin K1.
