Acodin syrup 300 and 150 Junior (leaflet) – indications, dosage, side effects of the drug

Acodin Syrup is a drug used in the symptomatic treatment of dry cough of various origins. It is a combined drug containing a morphine derivative that acts on the cough center in the central nervous system. The preparation inhibits cough, but does not eliminate its cause. The drug is in the form of a syrup and should be taken orally.

SUBSTANCE Acodin 150 Junior syrup 100 ml contains: 0,15 g of dextromethorphan, 1,0 g of dexpanthenol; Acodin 300 syrup 100 ml contains: 0,3 g of dextromethorphan, 1,0 g of dexpanthenol.

Acodin Syrup is a combined preparation containing a morphine derivative that exerts an effect on the cough center in the central nervous system and an analogue of pantothenic acid.

Acodin Syrup – indications and dosage

  1. Acodin Syrup is a preparation intended to heal the symptoms of cough that are not associated with the secretion in the respiratory tract.

Dosing of the syrup

Acodin is a syrup to be taken by mouth. It can be used regardless of meals.

  1. Children 6-12. 5 ml of Acodin 150 Junior syrup up to 4 times a day.
  2. Adults and children after 12 years of age 10 ml of Acodin 150 Junior syrup or 5 ml of Acodin 300 syrup up to 4 times a day.

Acodin Syrup and contraindications

There are the following contraindications to the use of Acodin Syrup:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. treatment with MAO inhibitors (in parallel or within the last 14 days),
  3. respiratory failure or the risk of its occurrence,
  4. bronchial asthma.

Acodin Syrup – warnings

  1. Acodin Syrup suppresses cough, but does not eliminate its cause.
  2. If your cough does not improve within a week or is accompanied by fever, headache or rash, please contact your doctor.
  3. Caution should be exercised in patients with acute renal and hepatic insufficiency. They should reduce the dose of the drug or increase the interval between taking individual portions of the preparation.
  4. People suffering from respiratory diseases accompanied by an increased amount of mucus, e.g. bronchitis, should not take the preparation.
  5. Patients who are intolerant to certain sugars should consult a doctor before taking this medicine, as Acodin contains sucrose.
  6. There is no information on the safe use of the drug in pregnant women, it should only be taken when the doctor determines that the benefit for the mother outweighs the possible risk for the baby.
  7. The drug should not be used during breastfeeding.
  8. Acodin Syrup administered in therapeutic doses may affect the ability to drive motor vehicles.
  9. Taking too high doses of the preparation may depress the central nervous system.

Acodin Syrup with other drugs

  1. It is not recommended to use Acodin simultaneously with MAO inhibitors, also within 14 days of discontinuing their use. Symptoms such as agitation, dizziness, nausea, muscle tremors, high temperature, high blood pressure may appear.
  2. Acodin Syrup affects the effects of alcohol on the central nervous system.

Acodin Syrup – side effects

Taking Acodin Syrup may cause the following side effects:

  1. somnolence (mild)
  2. dizziness,
  3. digestive system disorders (including nausea, vomiting).

If other side effects not mentioned above appear, a doctor should be consulted.
