Acne on the chin: causes

One of the most unpleasant problems that both women and men face, regardless of age, is acne, including on the chin. We will try to explain why pimples appear on the chin, what they mean, and how to remove them.

Why do pimples appear on the chin

There are many causes of acne in the chin and neck area. We list the main ones:

  • hormonal imbalance;

  • genetic predisposition;

  • improper diet;

  • improper skin care.

Take our quiz and find out if you’re taking good care of your skin.

The main reason why pimples pop up on the chin and neck is that a lot of bacteria normally “live” in our skin, in particular propionobacteria acne. The peculiarity of these microorganisms is that they lead an anaerobic lifestyle, that is, they do not need air access. Moreover, oxygen is poison for them. Inside the comedone, the conditions for acne bacteria are ideal: lack of air with abundant nutrition. Therefore, they begin to actively multiply, and their metabolic products provoke the development of an inflammatory reaction, which leads to the transformation of a harmless black dot into a pimple and rashes.

Causes of acne on the chin in women

In adult women, the appearance of acne and rashes on the chin is most often associated with the following factors:

  • menstrual cycle;

  • violation of the diet;

  • stress, especially chronic.

It is known that the stress hormone cortisol provokes increased production of sebum and, as a result, clogged pores. That is why, and not just according to the law of meanness, pimples appear on the eve of an important meeting or interview.

Causes of acne in men

Daily shaving is one of the causes of acne in men.

Men’s skin is characterized by increased oiliness, with which 90% of men are actively struggling. The stronger sex has more sebaceous glands than women, and a high level of testosterone makes them work even more actively. As a result, oily sheen, subcutaneous acne on the chin and inflammation appear. Read more about the causes and treatment of acne in men here.

How to determine the cause

Sometimes during menopause, small pimples on the chin appear in women who have not previously encountered the problem of acne. It is possible that the matter is a change in the hormonal background. However, in order to properly deal with misfortune, you should consult a doctor. The dermatologist will write a referral for a consultation with at least two more specialists – a gynecologist and an endocrinologist. Otherwise, the cause of hormonal acne on the chin cannot be identified. A number of studies are also possible. Least:

  1. general and biochemical blood tests;

  2. hormone analysis;

  3. analysis for demodicosis.

Only after receiving the results of the tests, the specialist can determine the most appropriate treatment and prevention program for you in order to overcome hormonal acne on the chin.
