Homemade mask recipes for problem skin vs. professional tools

There is probably not a single girl who has not tried to make an acne mask at home at least once in her life. Are these recipes effective? Now the trend for hand-made cosmetics is gaining more and more momentum, and you can find some really cute recipes on the net. Still, the Healthy-Food editors prefer products developed in the laboratory. We could not resist and, in addition to homemade masks, offered several alternatives from well-known cosmetics manufacturers.

Acne honey mask

Recipe

  1. 2 st. l. honey;

  2. 1 tsp ground cinnamon.

Melt honey slightly and mix thoroughly with cinnamon. Apply the resulting mixture locally on acne for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, then use a care product.

Editorial opinion. In theory, honey, which has antibacterial properties, should reduce inflammation, and the warming spice should increase its effect. In fact, everything can end with irritation, and even allergies. Why do you need such experiments when there are excellent ready-made products created just for working with pimples?

Facial mask “Magic clay. Detox and Radiance, L’Oréal Paris It’s great for teens and adults alike. It will help out when you need to even out the skin and get rid of imperfections. Contains three types of clay and coal, absorbing pollution.

Mask with aloe against acne

Recipe

  1. 2 tbsp. l. aloe vera;

  2. ½ cucumber;

  3. 1 tsp lemon juice.

Grind the cucumber to a pulp and mix with the rest of the ingredients. Apply to face for 15 minutes.

Editorial opinion. Strictly speaking, this is not exactly an acne mask. However, it provides problematic skin with the moisturizing treatment it needs as much as mattifying and cleansing. In addition, the mixture soothes and slightly exfoliates. The mask is light, non-greasy, does not contain comedogenic components. And we love it. But we have a much better option.

Calendula & Aloe Soothing & Moisturizing Face Mask, Kiehl’s – a great option in which you will find your favorite natural ingredients. This lightweight gel contains calendula petals. Using is a pleasure. And the effect is felt immediately – the mask moisturizes, cools, soothes and smells very pleasant.

Acne Clay Mask

Recipe

  1. 2 tsp green clay;

  2. 1 st. l. green tea (cooled);

  3. 1 tsp aloe vera gel;

  4. 2 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)

Gradually dilute the clay powder with tea to a paste-like state. Add aloe vera and mix again. Do not use metal utensils. Apply for 5 minutes.
Editorial opinion. Despite all the advantages of clay, as well as antioxidant and moisturizing additives, this mask cannot compete with ready-made products. Clay cleanses, but has the unpleasant property of overdrying the epidermis, which is highly undesirable for oily problem skin. It is extremely difficult to level this shortcoming at home, but in the laboratory it is quite.

Purifying Mattifying Mask Effaclar, La Roche-Posay includes two types of mineral clay, as well as thermal water rich in antioxidants. The product removes impurities from the pores and reduces oiliness of the skin. It does not dry out the epidermis, which means it does not provoke even more greasiness.

Turmeric mask

Recipe

  1. 1 st. l. white clay kaolin;

  2. ¼ tsp turmeric;

  3. mineral water.

Mix clay powder and turmeric in a glass bowl. Dilute with water to a paste, stirring with a wooden spoon. Wash off after 10-15 minutes.

If the skin is stained, wipe with a cotton pad dipped in milk.

Editorial opinion. A good mask based on the ability of clay to draw out everything unnecessary from the pores and mattify the skin. In addition, the stake is made on the antiseptic properties of turmeric, popular in beauty recipes. But that’s in theory. But in practice? Yellow face (if you use a quality spice) and risk of irritation. Therefore, we vote for ready-made masks designed by professionals with effective ingredients.

Steaming mask with zinc “Clean Skin”, Garnier based on a combination of the best ingredients to fight imperfections: clay, salicylic acid and zinc. The mask warms up on the face, creating a thermal effect to open the pores. And you don’t need to mix anything. Even pre-steaming is not required.

Mask with yogurt and strawberries

Recipe

  1. 2 strawberries;

  2. 2 st. l. yogurt.

Puree strawberries, mix with yogurt and apply for 20 minutes.

Editorial opinion. Fruit and lactic acids will rid the skin of dead cells and excess sebum without causing irritation. A nice option, but for problematic skin, ready-made products from the manufacturer are more suitable, who calculated everything and included in the formula exactly what is needed to achieve the desired effect.

Lotion to narrow the pores Effaclar, La Roche-Posay – this is not a mask, but it brings no less benefit. Tonic containing two types of acids, created just for the care of problematic or very oily skin: exfoliates, prevents clogging of pores and evens out tone. All you need is to wipe your face with it twice a day after washing, and then apply a moisturizer. By the way, there are several of them in the Effaclar line.

Activated carbon mask

Recipe

  1. 1 st. l. activated carbon (in powder);

  2. 2 drops of olive oil;

  3. 2 drops of tea tree oil;

  4. apple cider vinegar to taste.

Mix all the ingredients to a thin paste. Apply to face. Keep until dry.

Editorial opinion. Detox, acid exfoliation, antibacterial effect, nutrition – everything seems to be in place. However, this mask is far from perfect, as the reaction to vinegar with essential oils can be unpredictable. The risks are too great. It is clear that we are ready for anything, just to get rid of acne. But is it worth resorting to extreme sports when there are affordable products with a well-thought-out composition.

Black sheet mask “Cleansing Charcoal. Black tea leaves, Garnier – Charcoal draws out impurities from the pores, black tea leaf extract is an antioxidant. The formula contains LHA to improve skin texture and hyaluronic acid to hydrate. The action will take only 15 minutes. In addition, this mask is pleasant and comfortable to use.

Oatmeal mask

Recipe

  1. 1 Art. l oatmeal;

  2. 3 st. l. hot water.

Grind oatmeal in a coffee grinder and pour hot water over it to make a paste. When the mixture has cooled, apply it in a thick layer on the cleansed face and leave for about 20 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water and moisturize the skin with cream.

Editorial opinion. Such a mask is safe and beneficial for the skin: Hercules contains a lot of softening and cleansing micro and macro elements. But still, we like the industrial scrub mask more: it applies better, rinses off faster and, as it seems to us, fights acne more effectively.

Scrub mask “Magic clay. Cleansing and matting, L’Oréal Paris

Three types of clay in the mask and eucalyptus delicately remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and mattify. Instant result – smooth skin and a noticeable narrowing of pores.

When to use blemish masks

They are used as a preventive measure to prevent acne with increased greasiness of the skin. This does not mean that with existing rashes, such masks are not recommended, but you need to understand that acne requires treatment, and the mask is not a cure.

If you have a lot of inflammatory elements, as well as open and closed comedones, competent care (including a mask) should be recommended by a doctor. If the skin is oily and acne pops up on the face only from time to time, the mask can be applied without a visit to a specialist.

When not to wear a mask

In the third and fourth stages of acne, any manipulations with the face can only be carried out with the approval of a cosmetologist. And the use of homemade masks in an acute inflammatory process is completely excluded. In any case, it is better to contact a specialist: a dermatologist and a cosmetologist.

How to use an acne mask at home

Before proceeding with the practice, there are a few more important points to consider.

  • Acid-based masks are best used before bed. Overnight, the skin will have time to recover. But in the morning, be sure to use sunscreen. And in general, acne-prone skin needs enhanced protection. Read more about how to choose a sunscreen here.

  • Before applying the mask, the skin must be cleansed.

  • You can pre-steam your face by applying a warm, damp towel to it for how many minutes.

  • After you wash off the mask, use a tonic and moisturizer.

  • Do not overexpose the mask on your face – clay dries the skin, and acids can cause irritation. Do not squeeze pimples either before applying the mask or after applying it. Your self-activity may end badly – there will be more rashes or they will leave a trace (post-acne).

Cleaning is the work of a professional, he knows exactly how to carry it out without negative consequences. Your job is to take good care of your face. Proper care (cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing) will facilitate the work of a beautician.
