If youthful acne and oily sheen lingered on your face even after the official period allotted for the first and second youth, you should not be upset. Today, there are many ways to identify the cause of this and correct the problem.
Problematic skin is automatically associated with teenagers. According to the canons of classical cosmetology, only they are supposed to worry about oily sheen and acne.
After 17-18 years, when pubertal hormonal storms subside, faces should be cleansed, care products from sebum-regulating should become moisturizing-protective, and after a while – anti-aging. But in reality this is not the case.
Increased sebum secretion and a tendency to acne persist for many up to 25–30 years, and sometimes for life. There are many reasons for this. The same canonical cosmetologists habitually blame the endocrine system for everything. Theoretically they are right.
The production of sebum is regulated by a number of sex hormones – estrogens and testosterone, which are conventionally called female and male. The first one suppresses it, and the second one activates it.
That is why during pregnancy and lactation, when estrogens dominate in the female body, the skin becomes drier. And since earlier it was customary to acquire the first children by the age of 20, the period for pimples was given up to this age.
“After childbirth”
Indeed, after childbirth, hormonal imbalance, if it was, often returns to normal. And young mothers forget about past acne experiences. Moreover, completely different problems and joys appear in their lives.
Still, considering pregnancy as a treatment for oily skin is strange. In addition, for many, a year after giving birth, it again becomes problematic. The main reason for this is the increased sensitivity of the sebaceous glands to testosterone. In other words, with a normal content of this hormone in the blood, they will work at such speeds as if its amount is much higher than normal.
Most often, such inadequate reactivity is laid down at the genetic level. But stress, food allergies, and chronic internal inflammation also lead to it.
“For all the women who come to us who are concerned about shine and acne, I without fail prescribe a blood test,” says cosmetologist Maria Shirshakova, founder of her own clinic. – And I look not only at the hormonal background, but also at the tendency to inflammatory processes, which many people have genetically.
Such patients will not be helped by cleansing, peeling, or even a course of roacutane, a drug that is often prescribed to regulate sebum secretion. They need to first take a course of anti-inflammatory therapy. And in most cases, the skin condition improves.
The owner of the Bellefontaine clinic, dermatologist and cosmetologist Sofia Bigvava, agrees with Maria, who has developed a know-how – a meso-cocktail that levels the inflammatory reactivity of the sebaceous glands. “I myself have long been among the women who have skin problems in adulthood.
The birth of children did not improve the situation. Having studied the problem, I realized that only a local fight against inflammation can solve it. Through trial, error and experimentation, she created the desired drug on herself. I was able to normalize the condition of my own skin and help hundreds of patients in our clinic.”
It won’t be greasy.
Recently, cosmetic brands have taken a fresh look at the problem of “adult” oily skin. Indeed, despite the fact that she ages later, wrinkles and flabbiness still appear. In the past, most anti-aging products came in rich, dense textures.
What was justified: as the years go by, especially closer to menopause, testosterone production decreases and the skin becomes drier. Those who did not have this had no choice but to use matting products for teenagers, and apply anti-age products only to the area around the eyes, which is naturally poor in sebaceous glands and ages first.
Now the situation has changed. First, thanks to the abundance of light water serums and gels with a rich anti-aging composition. And secondly, many brands have released special products that simultaneously solve the problem of aging and increased sebum secretion.
In addition to sebum-regulating ingredients, they contain acid complexes that even out the surface of the skin, improving complexion and stimulating cell activity.
Also, vitamin C and retinol have proven themselves well, which not only activate blood circulation and increase skin tone, but also eliminate pigmentation.
Moreover, both age-related and post-acne, because the cause of acne spots is the same melanin that provokes age-related pigmentation.
So you should not panic if even after 30 or 40 years you are worried about pimples and a shiny nose with a forehead. You just need to find out the reason why they were delayed, and choose the appropriate care.
And also be glad that you will always look younger than your peers, who in their youth flaunted perfectly matte faces. After all, sebum, whatever one may say, is the best natural care product.
