Acnatac

Acnatac is a preparation in the form of a gel with antibacterial and exfoliating properties. It is widely used in dermatology to support the treatment of acne vulgaris. The drug is available only on prescription.

Action, indications and dosage of the preparation Acnatac

Acnatac is a gel that contains two active substances – clindamycin and tretinoin. It is intended for topical application to the skin. It supports the treatment of acne vulgaris, i.e. an inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands, manifested by the appearance of papules, pimples, blackheads and cysts. Clindamycin is an antibiotic that inhibits the multiplication of the bacteria responsible for the formation of acne. In addition, it reduces the inflammation that they cause. Tretinoin is a derivative of retinol, or vitamin A. It exfoliates the epidermis, inhibits keratosis and prevents blackheads. Treatment effects may be visible within a few days to twelve weeks from the first application.

The doctor decides on the dose and frequency of administration of the drug individually. Most often it is used once a day, at bedtime. The gel in a small amount is applied to the affected areas and spread. Before using it, wash and dry your face thoroughly.

Contraindications, side effects and drug interactions

Before using Treclinac, please read the package leaflet carefully. The preparation is not used if the patient is allergic to clindamycin, tretinoin or lincomycin. It is not indicated, inter alia, for people who struggle with chronic inflammation of the intestines, e.g. Crohn’s disease, acne and lightning rosacea or folliculitis. In addition, be careful and follow your doctor’s instructions if you have a family history of skin cancer or have been diagnosed with colitis after antibiotic therapy. The drug should not be used by women in the first trimester of pregnancy or by breastfeeding women.

Acnatac, like any other medication, can cause side effects and the most common include: skin redness, inflammation, rash, increased sebum production. In rare cases, it can cause, among others hypothyroidism, skin damage and bleeding at the application site, cold sores, headache or eye irritation.

Treatment with Acnatac gel and concomitant use of warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding. The doctor should be informed about the use of preparations that relax the muscles, and also contain corticosteroids and antibiotics such as metronidazole, erythromycin or aminoglycosides. In addition, a patient who has previously taken drugs containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, resorcinol or sulfur should often wait for their effects to subside and obtain the doctor’s consent to start the treatment.
