Aclexa is a prescription medicine that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It contains celecoxib – an active substance that contributes, among others, to to reduce pain.

– hard capsules; 100 mg; 10 caps / 30 caps / 60 caps

– hard capsules; 200 mg; 10 caps / 30 caps / 60 caps

2. AVAILABILITY CATEGORY: Rp. (prescription drug)

3. ACTIVE SUBSTANCE: celecoxib.

Aclexa – action

Aclexa belongs to the group of NSAIDs – a subgroup of COX-2 enzyme inhibitors. The drug works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins – substances responsible for pain and inflammation.

Aclexa – purpose and dosage

According to the Aclexa leaflet, the drug is intended to treat the symptoms of:

  1. rheumatoid arthritis,
  2. ankylosing spondylitis,
  3. osteoarthritis.

Dosage

The dosage of Aclexa is always determined by your doctor, so you should absolutely follow the guidelines received.

Sample dosage:

  1. osteoarthritis: 200 mg daily (in one or two doses)
  2. in rheumatoid arthritis: 100 mg twice a day
  3. for ankylosing spondylitis: 200 mg once a day or 100 mg twice a day.

Aclexa – contraindications to use

The use of Aclexa is not recommended in the case of:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. known hypersensitivity to sulfonamides,
  3. active gastric or duodenal ulcer,
  4. an allergic reaction when taking acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs,
  5. pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  6. severe kidney and liver disease,
  7. blood circulation problems (now or in the past)
  8. inflammatory bowel disease.

Aclexa – warnings

Warnings regarding the use of Aclexa:

  1. the drug may contribute to an increase in blood pressure – like other NSAIDs;
  2. the drug may make it difficult to get pregnant;
  3. in the event of an intolerance to sugars, please consult your doctor;
  4. in patients over 65 years of age may require regular medical monitoring;
  5. abrupt discontinuation of the drug may make symptoms worse;
  6. do not use a double dose if you have missed the previous one.

Aclexa – drug interactions

Aclexa is a preparation that may interact with other medications. Before starting therapy, inform your doctor about the current or previous preparations.

The leaflet informs about the effect of Aclex on drugs such as:

  1. inhibitory ACE,
  2. diuretics,
  3. dextromethorphan,
  4. bed,
  5. antidepressants,
  6. neuroleptics,
  7. flukonazol and ryfampicyna,
  8. oral anticoagulants
  9. methotrexate,
  10. cyclosporine,
  11. barbiturany,
  12. karbamazepina.

Aclexa – side effects

The use of Aclexa may be associated with side effects, although they will not occur in every patient. Hypertension is very common.

Common side effects include: swelling of the legs and hands, urinary tract infection, muscle stiffness, rash itching, worsening of existing allergic symptoms, sinusitis, nasal congestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea.

It is not very common, among others, heart failure, tachycardia, worsening of high blood pressure, anemia, constipation. There may also be abnormal test results for kidney and liver function.

Side effects such as eg. impaired coordination of movements, hair loss, intestinal perforation.

Not known side effects include: severe allergic reaction, gastric bleeding, severe skin disease, fatal intracranial haemorrhage.
