Acifolik is a medicine used to prevent folic acid deficiency in women before conception and in early pregnancy – to prevent birth defects of the neural tube. The active substance of the preparation is folic acid, which plays a significant role in tissues with numerous cell divisions. The drug is in the form of tablets for oral administration and is available without a prescription.

Acifolik – indications and dosage

Acifolik is a preparation taken to prevent:

  1. folic acid deficiency in women before conception,
  2. birth defects of the neural tube in the early stages of pregnancy.

Dosage of the preparation

Acifolik is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug as it may endanger your life or health.

  1. Orally, 1 tablet / day at least one month before conception and in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Acifolik and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Acifolik are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. people with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, primary lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Acifolik – warnings about the drug

  1. Apart from pregnancy and breastfeeding, Acifolik folic acid should not be taken in a dose higher than 0,4 mg / day without excluding megaloblastic anemia, as there is a possibility of masking the hematological symptoms of the disease.
  2. You can take the preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Acifolik and other substances

Inform your doctor if you are taking:

  1. anti-tuberculosis drugs,
  2. antiepileptic drugs,
  3. ethanol,
  4. oral contraceptives
  5. folic acid antagonists (sulfonamides, including sulfasalazine, methotrexate, trimethoprim, pyrimethamine) – increased need for folic acid,
  6. folic acid, which may reduce the effect of hydantoin anti-epileptic drugs, the dose of the anti-epileptic drug may need to be increased.

Acifolik – side effects

The use of Acifolik may lead to the following side effects:

  1. allergic skin reactions (rash, itching, redness),
  2. gastrointestinal disorders.
