Acatar Acti-Tabs – action

Acatar Acti-Tabs is a combined drug, so it contains more than one active ingredient. These are pseudoephedrine, a sympathomimetic, and the antihistamine triprolidine. These substances have certain properties:

  1. pseudoephedrine – its task is to stimulate α-adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscles of the resistance arterioles and venous sinuses of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses. Thanks to this, there is a contraction and less congestion of the nasal mucosa. In practice, this means less swelling and eliminating the feeling of a stuffy nose. The substance starts working 15-30 minutes after oral administration and lasts for another 4 hours.
  2. triprolidine – blocks histamine receptors. It is reversible. As a result, the action of histamine on H1 receptors is inhibited and the symptoms of allergy are less bothersome.

Acatar Acti-Tabs – indications

The indication for use leku Acatar Acti-Tabs is to alleviate the symptoms of rhinitis. After administration of the drug, the symptoms of rhinitis appearing during colds and mild flu are:

  1. swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses;
  2. nasal discharge;
  3. stuffy nose and sneezing.

In addition, the drug can also be used in the case of allergic rhinitis, that is, during allergies and in the case of angioedema of the nasal mucosa.

Acatar Acti-Tabs – contraindications

Remember that even if they exist indications for use of Acatar Acti-Tabs medication cannot always be given. Certain diseases and other health-related conditions may contraindicate its use or require dose adjustment. In some cases, it may be necessary to undergo regular check-ups.

Contraindication to the use of Acatar Acti-Tabs is:

  1. hypersensitivity to active substances, sympathomimetic amines or any of the ingredients of the drug;
  2. use of MAO inhibitors and the first 2 weeks after stopping their use;
  3. severe arterial hypertension;
  4. unstable ischemic heart disease;
  5. simultaneous use of other drugs containing pseudoephedrine;
  6. simultaneous use of other antihistamines;
  7. age – Acatar Acti-Tabs is not given to children under 12 years of age;
  8. severe hepatic and / or renal failure;
  9. pregnancy and breastfeeding time;
  10. simultaneous use of the antibacterial drug furazolidone – this drug causes a dose-dependent MAO inhibitory effect, which is associated with the risk of a hypertensive crisis.

Acatar Acti-Tabs – precautions

Certain precautions should be taken when taking Acatar Acti-Tabs:

  1. avoid alcohol consumption or the use of sedative medications;
  2. People with diabetes, heart disorders, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, arterial hypertension, pheochromocytoma, with increased intraocular pressure and with impaired urine flow (it may be caused by prostatic enlargement or stenosis of the bladder neck) should consult a doctor before first use of the drug;
  3. people with pyloric stenosis, acute angle-closure glaucoma, epilepsy, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal failure and liver failure should use the drug with caution due to the content of triprolidine;
  4. due to the greater sensitivity to the sedative effect of triprolidine, the elderly should also exercise caution;
  5. Without consulting a doctor, Acatar Acti-Tabs should not be used by people taking antihypertensive drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, drugs that stimulate the sympathetic system, such as vasoconstrictor drugs, as well as drugs that suppress appetite and psychotropic drugs similar to amphetamines, because there are the risk of the hypertensive effect of pseudoephedrine also in people with normal blood pressure. The physician should evaluate the effect of a single dose of the drug on blood pressure before prescribing the drug in this group of patients;
  6. Acatar Acti-Tabs also contains lactose, therefore it should not be used by patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose.

Acatar Acti-Tabs should not be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women.

As with all medicines, Acatar Acti-Tabs may also cause side effects. However, it should be remembered that they do not apply to everyone, and moreover, usually the benefits of using a given preparation outweigh the risks associated with their use. Side effects that may arise as a result the use of Acatar Acti-Tabs have:

  1. hallucinations;
  2. somnolence;
  3. sleep disturbance;
  4. increased heart rate or tachycardia;
  5. hypertension;
  6. dry mouth, nose and throat;
  7. rash, also with itching;
  8. urinary retention – this is especially true in men as pseudoephedrine may be a risk factor for enlarged prostate.

Acatar Acti-Tabs – interactions

Some medications may interact with Acatar Acti-Tabs. The use of Acatar Acti-Tabs together with drugs that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system may in some cases lead to an increase in blood pressure. These are:

  1. drugs that constrict the blood vessels of the mucous membranes;
  2. tricyclic antidepressants;
  3. appetite suppressants;
  4. amphetamine-like psychotropic drugs;
  5. MAO inhibitors disrupting the metabolism of amines stimulating the sympathetic nervous system.

In addition, triprolidine may also potentiate the effects of ethyl alcohol. In contrast, pseudoephedrine may, to some extent, reduce the effects of sympathetic-disrupting antihypertensive drugs. These are: bretylium, methyldopa, betanidine, debrisoquine, guanethidine, α- and β-adrenergic blockers.

Acatar Acti-Tabs – dosage

Acatar Acti-Tabs is for oral use. It is intended for adults and children over 12 years of age. 1 a tablet of Acatar Acti-Tabs is used every 6-8 hours, remembering not to exceed the dose of a maximum of 4 tablets a day. The drug can be used without consulting a doctor for a maximum of 3 days. If there is no improvement after this time or the patient’s condition worsens, consult a doctor.
