Absinth Red

It turns out that real absinthe does not have to be green at all! In any case, the creators of the Absinth Red brand say so. Its scarlet color is contrary to the canons, but it was intended as such: the drink is designed for progressive people, lovers of everything new and unknown. Produce “Absinthe Red” in the Czech Republic, at the plant of the company L’or special drinks.

Historical reference. L’or special drinks was founded in 1994. At first, all products were manufactured in a small factory in the vicinity of the city of Nepomuk, in 2014 the company acquired a large factory in Dolní Bousov, not far from Pilsen.

One of the co-owners of the company, Pavel Varga, devoted many years to raising the culture of drinking alcohol and, in particular, absinthe, to a new level. For 20 years, Mr. Varga has been collecting interesting exhibits around the world relating to the history of the famous wormwood tincture.

In 2010, L’or special drinks opened the “Absinthe Bar-Museum” in Prague. Bottles, fountains for ice and water, special spoons are exhibited here. When compiling the exposition, Pavel Varga tried to prove that the killer was not absinthe at all, and human immoderation and greed are to blame for the misfortunes attributed to the drink. Today, this bar is one of the top five places that, according to TripAdvisor, tourists should visit in Prague at night.

In 2012, a scandal erupted in the Czech Republic due to the fact that several people were poisoned by counterfeit alcohol. The government for some time banned the production and sale of alcoholic beverages stronger than 20 degrees. Companies producing hard liquor were subjected to inspections. L’or special drinks passed all the tests with honor, its products were beyond suspicion, and Pavel Varga and his partner, Jiri Cerny, opened a second absinthe bar in Prague at the end of 2012.

L’or special drinks produces several brands of absinthe, each of which has its own characteristics. But perhaps the most original of them is Absinth Red. A rich red drink in a tall elegant bottle looks very impressive.

Mr. Varga claims that Absinth Red is the best option for young people who are just starting to get acquainted with the world of absinthe.

The drink is made using maceration technology (infused and then filtered). Its color is explained by the addition of pomegranate juice extract to the wormwood tincture. The strength of absinthe is 60%, which is slightly below the generally accepted standard. The aroma of the drink is dominated by wormwood and anise notes. The taste is bitter, but not burning, but delicate, warm, with a sweet and sour hint of pomegranate in the aftertaste.
