Absheron

Cognac “Absheron” has been well known to Russian consumers since the Soviet era, when its unique blend was developed through the efforts of Azerbaijani cognac masters. Throughout the history of its existence, the drink has been invariably created according to the classical technology based on cognac distillates aged in oak barrels. The line is represented by four- and five-year-old cognacs. Today, products under this brand are produced by Mosazervinzavod CJSC located in Moscow and several Azerbaijani companies – Tovuz-Baltic, Ganja Sharab-2, Absheron-Sharab.

Historical information

The history of Mosazervinzavod dates back to 1925 – initially the enterprise was a warehouse for storing products received from Azerbaijan. Later, equipment for bottling was purchased, and transportation of wine-making raw materials in railway tanks was established. By the mid-80s of the last century, the capacity of the enterprise reached 1500 thousand deciliters. However, the consolidation and downsizing of production that took place in subsequent years, a poorly thought-out anti-alcohol campaign almost led to the closure of the plant.

Having overcome the times of crisis, Mosazervinzavod is gradually getting back on its feet. Old business relations have been restored and new ones have been established, technical re-equipment has been completed, the sales geography covers the territory from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka, and the presence in the near abroad is increasing. In addition to “Absheron”, the company’s portfolio includes several types of vodka, as well as collection and vintage cognacs and table wines, united by the common name: “Baku”, “Shirvan”, “Ganja”.

Types of cognac Absheron

“Absheron” 4-year-old, 40%

Cognac was created by blending distillates obtained from Takveri and Bayan-Shirei grapes, which are supplied to the plant from the famous wine-growing regions of Azerbaijan. The drink has an amber color with a golden hue. The bouquet combines the tones of aging in oak with hints of dried apricot, prunes, apple-pear confiture. The taste is extractive, soft, with a long nutty aftertaste. The four-year-old cognac produced in Azerbaijan has a slightly higher strength – 41%.

“Absheron” 5-year-old, 40%

The cognac is based on a blend of aromatic spirits aged five years, has a deep amber color and is bottled with an elongated neck, aged in the best traditions of the “Soviet” style. The bouquet has pronounced honey-vanilla shades and notes of pear, quince, dried fruits, oak wood. It has a balanced and delicate taste with light chocolate and creamy tones, which makes it easy to choose a gastronomic pair for it – hard cheese, sushi, grilled lobster will best cope with this role. The product of the Azerbaijani company “Ganja Sharab-2” has a strength of 42%.

“Absheron” 6-year-old, 40%

Produced in Azerbaijan on the basis of distillates obtained from autochthonous grape varieties. Aged in barrels of own production from a century-old Caucasian oak. The bouquet attracts with a harmonious combination of woody-balsamic tones and caramel notes. A slight scrolling of the glass does not lead to a surge of alcohol content, but only reveals new aromatic shades – ripe apricot, sun-dried grapes, apple marshmallow, poppy seed bun. The drink works great as a digestif, but it can also be served in the middle of dinner, between main courses, to refresh the palate.
