Abdominal cramps during pregnancy
Abdominal cramps during pregnancy are caused by changes in hormone levels in a woman’s body. Increased hormone levels weaken the muscles in the uterus, which can cause seizures. Such spasms can pose a threat to the health of the child.
Abdominal cramps during pregnancy: a common cause
Convulsions are common in women in position, and they often accompany the entire pregnancy. But cramps in the abdomen during pregnancy should be alerted, because they are the ones that pose a particular threat to the baby.
Cramps often occur because a pregnant woman’s belly begins to grow, which stretches the muscles that support the uterus. The abdominal cramps that occur for this reason resemble regular menstrual cramps.
Deficiency of vitamins in the body can provoke seizures
Also, the reason for the appearance of seizures is a deficiency of vitamins, microelements and macronutrients. The body begins to sound the alarm and thus informs about the presence of a problem. In a pregnant woman, immunity is lowered, since all the vitamin and mineral reserves of the body are spent on the development and growth of the child.
As a rule, seizures appear with a deficiency:
- B vitamins;
- magnesium;
- potassium;
- calcium.
Toxicosis that appears in the first trimester also often causes seizures. This is due to the fact that frequent vomiting disrupts the functions of the pancreas, and the mother’s body begins to poorly assimilate nutrients.
When do abdominal cramps during pregnancy threaten a baby?
Not every time when seizures appear, you need to panic, but you should pay attention to the symptoms when the seizures are threatening:
- Suddenly appearing pulling pains in the lower abdomen. Such symptoms are characteristic of abortion.
- Moderate pain with bloody, pale pink, yellowish, or brown discharge. The presence of any discharge indicates a deviation from the norm.
- Slight tingling sensation. If you feel a slight short tingling sensation, and then they began to become more frequent or pain sensations intensified, immediately call an ambulance.
There are times when abdominal cramps are normal during pregnancy. This often happens in the third trimester of pregnancy. This phenomenon is called training contractions. They can appear suddenly and often occur at night. Their frequency indicates the approach of childbirth.
With timely assistance, in about 76%, it is possible to prevent the abortion process. But if for some reason you cannot go to the hospital, try to take sedatives and antispasmodics.
To prevent seizures, take a vitamin and mineral complex, drink plenty of fluids, stay outdoors and do not be stressed.
