Vertigo can be disorienting, although many times it has nothing to do with diseases waiting for our health. They are among the most common symptoms under the influence of which we direct our steps to the doctor. We explain what they usually result from.

Vertigo is defined as the sensation of having one’s own body or the environment in a circular motion. They are often accompanied by damage to connections between the nerves or vestibular organ nausea and vomiting.

An unlucky thirteen that makes your head spin!

  1. Viral infections of the organ responsible for balance, which is located in the inner ear, are among the most common causes. Although the ailments themselves do not last too long, the resulting symptoms can bother us for several months.
  2. Sometimes motion sickness is to blame.
  3. Dizziness can be dictated by a brain tumor, and sometimes by a brain hemorrhage.
  4. Obstructed blood flow to the brain generally occurs in older patients diagnosed with degenerative condition of the cervical spine.
  5. Temporary cerebral ischemia and stroke are manifested, among others, by: dizzy.
  6. A sharp drop in blood pressure that accompanies standing up. On the so-called Orthostatic hypotension is most common in pregnant women or elderly people.
  7. Long-term alcohol abuse, as well as alcohol or drug intoxication.
  8. It is not uncommon to manifest carbon monoxide poisoning in this way, which is generally related to the obstruction of ventilation ducts that occur in houses with gas installations.
  9. Dizziness is sometimes caused by a drop in blood glucose levels.
  10. Those affected by this disease include: diabetics.
  11. Idiopathic hydrocele of the labyrinth, i.e. the so-called Meniere’s disease is also manifested by exhaustion, pale skin, nausea and vomiting. Attacks can recur over many years and put us at risk of hearing loss.
  12. It is also a common symptom of heart disorders, high blood pressure or atherosclerosis.
  13. Dizziness can be caused by preparations for lowering blood pressure or NSAIDs classified as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

If we suspect poor health or the wrong choice of medication, see a doctor as soon as possible.

What is the mechanism of balance and spatial orientation?

On the correct one orientation in space and maintaining balance several important factors are imposed on the basis of which the brain analyzes information. The first one is the labyrinth located in the inner ear, which provides information not only about vertical and horizontal movements, but also about rotational movements of the head. The organ of vision allows us to determine our position and the way we move. In turn, the receptors that mediate sensation and touch allow for the exchange of stimuli, thanks to which we gain information about the detailed position of the body in the environment. These receptors are located in the skin, tendons, muscles and periosteum.
