The girl still gets up at 6 in the morning to make miso soup according to her mother’s recipe.
This story, like most heartbreaking stories, began with a lot of love. Young men Chie and Shingo Chan started dating as students. However, the idyll soon came under threat. In 2001, the girl was diagnosed with breast cancer. As Chie later admitted on her blog, then she immediately thought that her beloved would leave her, since with her he would be deprived of a future. However, Shingo proved that his feelings are true, and did not leave the girl in difficult times.
The lovers got married and began a joint struggle for Chie’s life. After two years of therapy, the cancer receded, but the joy was clouded by the fact that, according to doctors, now the girl could not conceive. And in 2003, the couple learned that they were expecting a child. It was a real miracle! However, this time, happiness did not come to the family for long. When little Hana was only 9 months old, it turned out that the cancer had returned.
When a new round of the fight against cancer began, Chie began to write a blog in which she talked about her experiences. Thanks to this, the world learned about her tragic fate. The first record of the girl was the words that she did not want to continue to live and torment her husband, who already went through a lot with her. Chie understood that she was doomed and no therapy would help. But then a coup took place in the mind of the young mother: she realized that she could not leave this life now, since she had a little Hana, who had to be put on her feet, having taught everything that was necessary in life. Chie admitted that she loves her daughter more than life, so she is ready to fight death until she realizes that the baby has become quite independent and will not disappear in this world.

From the age of 5, Chie began to accustom the girl to a regimen, which she considered the basis for the normal functioning of the body. She also worked to instill in her survival skills and strengthen her physical fitness. But the most important thing, according to Chie, was teaching the baby the process of cooking. Every day, Chiyo and Hana got up at 6 am to cook the signature miso soup.
Chie Chan died after teaching the girl everything she knew. She was at that time only 33 years old. The world learned about how the girl lived after her mother left thanks to the fact that she continued to write a blog, where she published an essay “A Promise to My Mom”. Even as an adult, Hana continued to adhere to the life schedule that Chiyo made: every morning she gets up at 6 in the morning to make miso soup according to her mother’s recipe. “When I make miso soup, I feel happy, it feels like my mom is standing next to me,” she wrote in her essay.
This story became very popular in Japan. In 2015, a full-length feature film “Miso Soup from Hana-chan” was even shot, based on the tragic fate of Chie and Hana.
