One day completely changed the life of a homeless drug addict from Kenya. He was lucky enough to meet a childhood friend who raised money for treatment, sent him to a rehab clinic, and later even helped start his own business.
While walking around the Kenyan town of Nairobi, a local resident Wanya Muaura drew attention to a homeless man lying near the hotel – she was surprised to recognize in him a former classmate and childhood friend Patrick Hing. In a short conversation, the girl found out that the man had been living on the street for 13 years. Hing clarified that he struggled with drug addiction for a long time, but could not cope with it.
Moura later contacted the man’s mother, Nancy. She told Wanya that her son had already been in psychiatric hospitals several times, but each time he escaped from there. “We sent Patrick for treatment eight times. The first time he was discharged a week later. During this time, he studied the clinic, so the next time he simply ran away, ”Nancy explained.
According to her, Hing graduated from high school without any problems, but in college the young man got into a bad company – it was new friends who addicted him to drugs.
“He became a completely different child. I could not even talk to him, because he immediately began to behave aggressively. Therefore, when teachers complained about him again, I had to wait for my husband: only he could pacify him, ”said Patrick’s mother.
One day, Nancy came home earlier than usual and found her son using drugs. She tried to talk to him, but he lashed out at her. “Soon he began to behave even more strangely. He stopped eating, sometimes he could look at the screen of the switched off TV for a long time and laugh. When we asked him what he sees there, he replied: “Merry little men,” Nancy said.
After another escape from the hospital, Patrick lost contact with his family and began to live on the street. Everything changed when Wanya met on his way. She immediately sent him to a rehab clinic and started a fundraising campaign for his treatment. The woman closely followed her friend, thanks to which this time the therapy ended successfully. When Patrick left the hospital, Wagna helped him start a business – the man opened a small Hinga’s Store.
“I feel like a new person. he says. “I pray daily and ask God that I will never go back to a life full of drugs.” “There will be no more street boy, no more hospitals, no more drugs, no more ridicule. You will be at home with your family,” Wanya told Hingu after his rehabilitation was over. “I don’t care what happened before. I just pray that my son finally feels good and can live happily, ”Nancy concluded in turn.
