😉 Greetings, my dear readers! Winter Story is an incredible event that happened around Christmas. Believe it or not.
My friend Tatiana recently told this mystical story that she heard from my mother. When Tanya’s parents had just got married, they decided to go to their mother-in-law for Christmas. It’s not far. From the city half an hour by bus to the village of Orlovka, and then on foot two kilometers across glades and wastelands to the village of Gelben.
A gatehouse in an open field
On Friday evening we hit the road. In winter, it gets dark early, and then a blizzard broke out inappropriately. Lost the road, lost. Tanya’s mother’s legs were frozen in fashionable ankle boots. They strayed for a long time. Suddenly, in the middle of the field, they saw a lonely hut. Maybe a hunting lodge?
The friend’s parents knocked. The door was opened by a gray-haired old man. He put the guests closer to the stove and treated them to tea. When they warmed up and the snowstorm subsided, they decided to move on. We got to Gelben at about two o’clock in the morning. Relatives wondered: why is it so late? And how did you not freeze to death in this weather?
When Tanya’s parents told about the house and the old man, the mother-in-law was surprised:
– There are no gatehouses nearby!
Nobody believed them, everyone just shrugged their shoulders. On Monday, on the way back, my friend’s parents looked around carefully. Indeed, there were no buildings to be seen, there was an open field around. Tatiana’s mother, when her daughter grew up, told her:
– It was God’s man who helped us so that we survived, and you and your brother were born.
The village with the funny name Gelben is long gone. And only sore toes on the once frostbitten feet remind Tatyana’s mother of that incident.
Or maybe Nicholas the Wonderworker helped them? There are many incredible cases in the world when he saved people from inevitable death. Therefore, this saint is called the Wonderworker.
In Russia, Nicholas the Pleasant (the Wonderworker) has long been revered. The number of icons painted and churches built in his honor was the largest after the Mother of God. The male name Nikolai was one of the most popular in Russia when naming babies.
