A Spanish wine of 340.000 euros, the most expensive in the world
AurumRed It is the most expensive wine in the world and is made in Spain, specifically in the Cuenca town of Las Pedroñeras. This year the price of its gold edition has skyrocketed from the 17.000 euros 25.000. The vintner pauses as he talks about the value of his product, puts his hands on his head and confesses: “I don’t want to think about how much my next project will pay for.” It refers a Special Edition which will go on sale in the next few weeks, “if everything goes as we expect, it will go on the market for Reyes,” he confesses. The work will combine art and wine and its price will be 340.000 euros.
«Twelve of the best contemporary artists in the world are working for me, we want to merge wine and art. The first of the pieces is already finished and it is the work of a Spanish artist who will be the next Miguel Ángel », predicts García. Refers to Alberto Rodriguez Serrano, a young promise of painting. He claims to be the only artist, along with the painter of the Sistine Chapel, who exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
As soon as Hilario García came into contact with Rodríguez Serrano’s work, he did not hesitate to put in his hands the vessel in which the author printed his creativity: “his work fascinated me, he will be known internationally, the Vatican has bought one of his works” , says García. The product of this union is a very expensive specimen that will contain 16 liters of its gold edition.
According to the winegrower, this will be the first of several projects in which art and wine will be integrated into the same work: «this bottle is the first of the finished pieces, but there will be more. The wine will fit in all kinds of artistic manifestations.
A unique product
“It is expensive because the market itself has decided so, there are people willing to pay it because it gives them sensations that they cannot find in any other product in the world,” he explains. Hilario Garcia, creator of AurumRed.
The tempranillo from Las Pedroñeras has a particularity: its nuances change depending on the direction the turn takes of the glass before drinking. García recommends that the glass be turned clockwise, in whose aroma fig bread, figs and some spicy notes are perceived. It ensures that its flavor is more alcoholic, more mature, wider and shorter. The opposite way, however, it has «More finesse and elegance» and an aroma in which small fruits, cocoa and cassis predominate.
Those who tasted the wines from the Las Pedroñeras winery assure that the wine not vinegar once opened, but its flavor improves as the months and years go by.
Hilario García defends that his wine stores all flavors in one drink. An idea that obsessed him since the morning when he set out to “separate all its nuances and find a way to mix them all naturally without being canceled out.” He tells the details of his creation as a proud father talks about the achievements of his child: «Have you ever been in love? What have you noticed? All the things in the world together, right? Those are my feelings when I taste the fruit of my work ».
The secret of the formula
The burden of work is in the plant and, to preserve the quality of the product, García ensures to put the soul in each grape. He says that he applied “constant research” to the wine, and that he made changes to it “on the fly.”
«I realized that the bottles tasted better when rested vertically instead of horizontally, its usual position. I then came to the conclusion that the secret was in the shape of the bottle, which generated pyramidal energies when he was standing up and it turns out that it favored the taste of the wine, “he says.
The author controls the wine production from the vine to the winery and is very meticulous with the processIn fact, he does not let anyone but himself have contact with his vines. He believes that a single outside presence would affect its quality. «If you are looking for an extraordinary product, the entire production process must be manual. The presence of people influences as it is very important the information given to the wine».
His theory is based on the studies of a Japanese named Masaru Hemoto, which photographed ice crystals from two frozen halves of the same type of liquid in different containers. Before freezing one of the halves gave negative information, while the other half gave positive information. Observed through a microscope, in the part to which bad information had been transmitted, the crystals were amorphous. In the other half, however, they were perfect proportions, beautiful.
“Growing on different moons, talking to the grape, not letting anyone come into contact with the product … there are more than a hundred factors that later make the wine speak”, argues García.
Born of adversity
“Life gave me very complicated moments, including an illness that put me on the bed,” confesses García. Before the illness, the employer managed a tax advice. After several operations, he decided to face an experimental treatment with ozone, his lifeline. After the cure, he began to investigate the benefits of ozone in both medicine and veterinary medicine, and came to the conclusion that it could also be applied to grapevines.
This substance, according to the winegrower, eliminates bacteria and fungi that reduce the effectiveness of the plant and prevent it from developing 100%: «If a plant grows without enemies that delay its growth and influence its quality, it will give the best of herself».
They only occur 300 bottles per year of AurumRed gold edition, and half of them stay locked in the cellar for years. The businessman assures that this operation is a guarantee for his clients, “to have a specific bottle whenever they ask for it.” He remembers with special fondness the clients who toasted with their wine at the order: “They always tell me with laughter that the merit of the successful marriage was the wine.”
