Sometimes one rash act can ruin a pet’s life.
A few days ago, the non-profit organization Nashville’s Big Fluffy Dog Rescue of Tennessee (USA) told a tragic story about a puppy named Teaucup. The unusual nickname was not chosen by chance for the baby. The puppy was born extremely small in size and, according to experts, will not be able to grow in the future.
The Tea Cup has another pathology – it is blind. At the same time, the point is not at all that she supposedly has eyes that are devoid of sight. The baby has nothing in the place where the eyes should be located, there are only two depressions, which are overgrown with wool. The baby’s bladder is adhered to her uterus, which causes difficulties during emptying.
When the baby was born, the breeder could not feed her. Due to its extremely small size, the Teacup could not take the mother’s breast and eat from the bottle.
At four weeks old, she weighed only one pound – 0,45 kg. Then the dog was taken to Nashville’s Big Fluffy Dog Rescue shelter. The owners were worried that the baby simply would not be able to survive. The representative of the shelter – 38-year-old Nicole Butler – was surprised and shocked when she first saw the Tea Cup.
“I couldn’t believe she was so tiny. I really wanted to feed her. The cup does not understand that she is disabled, because she does not know what it is like to see the world with her own eyes. Nobody told her that she was special, so she behaves like any other puppy. When he stumbles upon an obstacle, he does not despair. It will be very difficult for a puppy to find owners. Taking care of such an animal is difficult, ”Butler said in an interview with People.
The 18 week old puppy currently weighs 5,2 lbs – 2,36 kg, but it is not expected to ever exceed 8 lbs (3,2 kg) due to improper breeding. The Teacup is a cross between a Giant Schnauzer and a Terrier, but it’s not that simple.
“What breeders do: They take the smallest individuals from previous litters, which were also born as a result of crossbreeding, and then breed them again to get a dog that is as ‘toy’ as possible. Only at this moment, for some reason, no one thinks about the consequences. Nobody cares that a puppy can be born with a pathology. They left the baby in the orphanage – and that’s the end of it, ”Butler summed up her reasoning.
