A runny nose in a child: how to cure it in one day. Video

A runny nose is one of the signs of a cold and causes a lot of inconvenience for both adults and children. It is especially difficult for babies who do not know how to blow their nose on their own and, due to the mucus constantly accumulating in the nose, suffer from lack of air. However, with the help of effective home and pharmacy remedies, a runny nose can be cured in a matter of days.

Treatment of a runny nose in a nursing baby

Infants are the hardest to carry a runny nose. Even a small amount of mucus accumulated in the nasal passages prevents them not only from breathing, but also from sucking on the breast or bottle. As a result, the child becomes lethargic, capricious, and in the absence of effective treatment, he loses weight on the second or third day of an unsuccessful fight with a cold.

To make breathing easier for the child, rinse the nasal passages with saline and remove the accumulated mucus with a syringe or nasal aspirator (nozzle). At the end of this procedure, you need to drop a drop of medicine (“Nazivin”, “Vibrocil”, etc.) or a folk anti-inflammatory drug into each nasal passage, for example:

  • decoction of chamomile, calendula or sage
  • freshly squeezed aloe juice
  • beetroot juice diluted with water in a 1: 1 ratio
  • breast milk

With the help of the listed funds, you can quickly cure a runny nose in an infant. The only condition: you need to carry out the procedure for cleansing the nose and instilling drops not once a day, but at least 3-4.

Treatment of a runny nose in a child over a year old

Treating children over the age of one year is somewhat easier than treating babies. They spend most of the day in an upright position, and therefore mucus, even if the child does not know how to blow his nose, does not linger in the nose, but flows out on its own. And yet this does not mean that there is no need to cleanse the nasal passages, because the infection can go down “lower” and cause a cough. It is no longer possible to remove mucus with an aspirator, but with the help of home remedies. One of the most popular is Kalanchoe juice. It is necessary to drip it into each nasal passage (1-2 drops), and after a couple of minutes the child will begin to actively sneeze. As a result of this procedure, the nose will be completely cleared of mucus.

A child over one and a half years old can already try to explain what needs to be done in order to blow his nose. Usually, children willingly respond to a request to blow their nose strongly or portray a hedgehog snorting with his nose.

You should also use other folk remedies. Honey diluted with water in a 1: 4 ratio is especially effective. It should be buried in the baby’s nose 5-6 times a day.

Onion juice is not very pleasant, but a good alternative to honey. With its help, you can cure a runny nose in just 2-3 days. The juice should be instilled into the nose after diluting with water in a 1: 1 ratio. Otherwise, the child may feel a strong burning sensation in the nose and refuse further treatment.
