The youngest in Scotland with COVID-19
The youngest patient in Scotland to be diagnosed with the coronavirus was born at Wishaw University Hospital, reports The Independent. A Caesarean section was required because the girl’s mother, Tracy Maguire, was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. Tracy’s daughter Peyton Maguire was born on March 26, eight weeks before her due date. Weighing 1,5 kg, the girl spent the first weeks of her life in the neonatal ward.
Although only a slight cough was observed in Peyton, she was performed in the third week of her life SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus test. The result was positive and the parents were instructed to undergo a 14-day home quarantine. Ultimately, the doctors allowed the girl’s mother to stay in the hospital. However, the care of Peyton was entrusted to medical personnel.
Tracy Maguire, mother of a premature baby:
Watching the medical staff work was amazing. They put their own lives at risk by ensuring that the baby was fed and cuddled. Even wearing personal protective equipment, they ensured her a sense of closeness.
When Peyton tested negative for coronavirus twice, the girl was discharged from the hospital – she could go home on Monday, April 20.
Premature born Peyton Maguire has defeated the coronavirus and is now at home in Bellshill with her parents. In an interview with The Independent, the girl’s mother emphasized that women expecting a child should not be afraid of visiting the hospital, because medical workers know how to protect themselves against coronavirus and COVID-19 infection. Seeking medical attention is especially important when there are serious health problems or disturbing symptoms. Ignoring health issues can make things worse.
