Tomasz Protaziuk, a doctor working at the hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, appealed to all COVID-19 survivors to donate blood plasma. “There is no plasma for a long time, but the number of patients requiring hospitalization is growing rapidly,” wrote the physician.
Plasma from healers can help COVID-19 sufferers
The moving appeal was posted by the doctor on Facebook. We publish it in full:
«I know that now everyone is busy with something else, but I have such an appeal – a bit of my private one, and also from all medics – if someone is fortunate enough to have COVID-19 behind him and is a convalescent or has convalescents among his friends, I strongly encourage you donating your plasma (which is not a perfect remedy, but one of the few effective covid treatments).
We really have a mega problem, because there aren’t any more patients with plasma for a long time, somehow… There are an avalanche of those requiring hospitalization.
On Friday, I had my first shift to take life-saving equipment from some patients to give to others – in my opinion, a more promising experience – for me, privately believe me this is a very bad «experience».
Plasma of convalescents increases survival and shortens hospitalization time – giving new patients a chance to find a place in the hospital, there are no places in Warsaw hospitals for a long time.
How does it look technically? Just like donating blood, only the donation process itself is a bit longer – approx. 45 minutes.
Place – every blood donation station. I invite you to the hospital (Ministry of Interior and Administration) – there is a separate “clean” entrance directly to the blood donation station, and besides, as convalescents you are generally safe.
What can you gain by knowing that you are saving human life (and believe me – it’s quite a nice feeling)? A day off from work and a few chocolates. I will be happy to give you further tips. »

Who can donate plasma and how to do it? Doctor Protaziuk explains what conditions must be met:
First of all, you have to be a healer, that is, first you have to be sick, that is:
1. We had a PCR test that confirms SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection
in this situation, plasma can be donated:
a) 28 days after the end of isolation and you do not need to do any tests confirming the fact of being well
be
b) if someone had a follow-up test performed after the disease (which is rare now, but was widely used at the beginning of the pandemic), he can donate plasma 14 days after the negative PCR test.
2. If we suspect that we have contracted COVID-19 and never had a genetic test – but for some reason we did a serological test (for example, out of simple curiosity if we had it behind us), i.e. antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and we have a positive result in the IgG class – the plasma can be donated after 14 days from such a result (if we have a positive result in the IgM class, I advise you to consult a doctor because it may be an active infection). »
To donate plasma, the above conditions must be met and:
– be between 18 and 60 years old,
– do not have chronic diseases (also disqualifies hashimoto and diabetes)
– people who have been treated with blood transfusions or its components in the past cannot donate
– people who have received surgery or had a tattoo performed can donate plasma, but after six months after the procedure
– if someone is a convalescent and donated blood as a donor, 30 days must pass from the last whole blood donation.
