Martyna Chmielewska / Medexpress: Healthcare around the world is struggling with the coronavirus epidemic. MZ informed about over 21,8 thousand. illnesses. We know that you were also infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. How did it come about?

Beata Jędra: I don’t know how the infection got. Although I followed all epidemiological recommendations, I was infected with COVID-19. The first symptoms appeared on October 5. I felt broken, my throat was scratchy, my muscles ached. After two days, I woke up at night with cold chills and muscle aches that needed treatment. I had a fever of 37 degrees Celsius. This worried me because I had all infections without any increased temperature.

Then a multitude of symptoms occurred, such as: fatigue, general breakdown, lack of appetite, nausea, heavy breathing, and excessive sweating. I was most troubled by severe headaches that turned into migraines, eliminating me completely from everyday life. On the sixth day, there was a complete loss of smell and taste.

The family doctor did not have any problems with taking the test. She directed me to swab. I went to the hospital in Józefów. There were lines in the facility. Due to the fact that I am from the health service, I did not have to wait long for the test. The result turned out to be positive.

What do you fear most about infection?

I learned that people who have had the coronavirus can experience complications from both the circulatory and respiratory systems. And that’s what I’m afraid of. After a month or two, I’m going to have a thorough checkup, get an x-ray of the lungs, see a cardiologist. I want to control my health.

What was the most difficult for you while you were in quarantine?

Perhaps the most difficult for me were the four days in the first phase of the disease, which cut me out completely. I just wanted to sleep. I didn’t even have the strength to get up to the bathroom or do the basic activities. On the other hand, in the second phase of the disease, home isolation was the most difficult. Fortunately, apart from my family, I have friends and good acquaintances who stayed in touch with me by phone. Thanks to this, I did not feel lonely.
