A new strain of coronavirus “delta plus” has been identified in Russia: what is known about it

And what should you be ready for now?

This summer, the Russians do not have to relax. Not only is the central part of the country so hot for several weeks now that you can cook scrambled eggs right on the window (video). So now there is information that the first case of infection with a new strain of the delta plus coronavirus has been recorded in Russia.

“Delta Plus” is a mutation of an Indian strain, which, according to the Ministry of Health, differs from the previous variant in a higher spreading rate, as well as in its ability to more strongly affect lung cells.

It is noteworthy that the symptomatology that a new strain of coronavirus gives differs from that observed with classic covid, writes the British edition Express… If earlier patients complained of high fever, cough, and lack of smells and tastes, now patients notice headache, sore throat, runny nose and itching of the skin.

To date, a new strain has been recorded in isolated cases in the USA, Great Britain, India and a number of other countries, writes “Fontanka“. In India, a little more than 40 cases have been identified, but against the background of the overall incidence in this country, the figure looks insignificant.

Since June 1, WHO has changed its approach to the name strains of coronavirus. The British strain began to be called “alpha”, the South African strain “beta”, the Brazilian strain “gamma”, and the Indian strain “delta”.

Meanwhile, “delta plus” has already caused concern of WHO experts. According to World Health Organization Chief Scientist Sumya Swaminathan, the mutated strain is twice as infectious as the original SARS-CoV-2. As reported Indian media, you can now catch a dangerous virus simply by walking past the patient without a mask.
