Laser treatments and the implantation of advanced intraocular lenses are modern methods of treating cataracts, a disease that leads to a gradual deterioration of vision, including complete loss of vision. There is no need to give up a better quality of life, because after the surgery, you return to your favorite activities and passions, without prior restrictions, without glasses – explains Prof. dr hab. med. Bartłomiej Kałużny. As the first in Poland, prof. Kałużny performed cataract femtophacoemulsification with implantation of an innovative lens with functional proximal proximity.

The risk of cataracts increases with age

Cataracts, i.e. clouding of the eye lens, usually affect people over 60 years of age. However, younger people face this problem more and more often. The first disturbing symptoms are worsening visual acuity. In the later stage of the cataract, the image may be seen as though through a fog. The color intensity is also noticeable. Cataracts do not appear overnight, usually it is a long-term process. Only in some cases is it possible to establish the triggering factor. Deterioration of the lens is in most cases a natural aging process of the lens.

Advanced laser technology in the treatment of cataracts

Wybór soczewki to decyzja na całe życie, warto o tym pamiętać, decydując wraz z lekarzem o rodzaju implantu. Dotychczas pacjenci mieli tylko wybór pomiędzy soczewkami jednoogniskowymi (po których nadal musieli stosować okulary do bliży), a soczewkami wieloogniskowymi, które nie były dostępne dla wszystkich pacjentów i mogły wywoływać w niektórych przypadkach pewne efekty niepożądane.

Właśnie wprowadzona na rynek nowa soczewka wewnątrzgałkowa pozwala na funkcjonalne widzenie z bliży. Jej zaletą jest możliwość korekcji starczowzroczności przy utrzymaniu niskiego poziomu niekorzystnych zjawisk – na poziomie soczewek jednoogniskowych.

Nowa soczewka należy do category of lenses with extended focal length EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus). This is a category that lies between multifocal lenses (trifocal, bifocal), which offer a wide range of vision (near, far and intermediate distances in the case of trifocal lenses), and monofocal lenses, which are usually used for distance, explains Prof. Puddles.

Its main advantage is that with a minimal risk of flares, halos and glare, it offers the so-called functional near vision, distance vision up to 40 cm without glasses. This gives cataract patients a new option to become independent from glasses in most life situations. After implanting this new lens, patients have an ideally extended range of vision – from distance, through intermediate distances, to functional near vision, which is needed for typing, cooking and DIY.

All this thanks niedyfrakcyjnej konstrukcji soczewki, która wykorzystuje dwa gładkie elementy przejściowe na przedniej powierzchni soczewki IOL, działające jednocześnie i tworzące ciągły, rozszerzony zakres widzenia zamiast oddzielnych punktów ogniskowych. Nieznacznie uniesiona, lekko wypukła powierzchnia została podzielona na dwie strefy, co zapewnia szerszy zakres ogniskowania oraz większą stabilność i jakość obrazu po implantacji. Dodatkowo nowa soczewka posiada filtr UV i filtr światła niebieskiego, które chronią oczy przed szkodliwym promieniowaniem.

Soczewka ta dzięki swym właściwościom jest wręcz idealna dla kierowców, którzy przy wyborze soczewki podczas operacji zaćmy chcą uniknąć ryzyka występowania niepożądanych zjawisk świetlnych, takich jak efekt halo po zmroku czy olśnienia. To także dobre rozwiązanie dla pacjentów pracujących głównie na komputerze, dla których ważne jest widzenie z bliży (około 40 cm), jak również tych wszystkich, którzy doceniają osiągnięcie lepszego kontrastu w stosunku do soczewek wieloogniskowych.
