A group of scientists from the Japanese University of Tsukuba has discovered a method of controlling an allergic reaction at the molecular level. The research results are published in the latest issue of the scientific journal Nature Immunology.
According to the scientists, their discovery will enable the development of effective drugs against allergies.
So far, the main task of antiallergic preparations has been to remove the symptoms of this disease. If we manage to establish control over the receptor called allergin-1 – present on the surface of specialized cells of the immune system – then we will be able to prevent allergy itself – said Professor Masabumi Shibuya (PAP).
