😉 Greetings to my dear readers! Friends, is one second a lot or a little? For me, a lot…. The medical history is the story that changed my life

I graduated from high school very late. Firstly, because of the stupid law, and secondly, for health reasons.

The school accepted children from the age of seven. 26 days (!) By date of birth were not enough for me to be seven years old. I had to wait a whole year! And in the third grade I studied for two whole years due to a long illness.

My history

Taganrog, 1967. I’m ten. Winter, evening, dark, frost, ice, slippery, turn, car, headlights, strong blow …

I regained consciousness only three weeks after a difficult operation. All this time I was in a coma. Severe traumatic brain injury. Open, with a fracture of the bones of the cranial vault …

Gradually I came back to life. I was born again. She was born and went through the path of “evolution” again. Turning into a little child again. I did not get out of bed, they fed me from a spoon, then I learned to walk, speak and read again …

The joy of the first step knew no bounds! The memory gradually returned. I was in the department of pediatric surgery for three months. From severe frosts to the first lilies of the valley.

In the fall, my classmates moved to the fourth grade. I, like the duck “Gray Neck”, sadly looked at the “flying away flock” of my classmates … I had to continue my studies with a new team of the third grade.

Promise

The magician Ivan Ivanovich Babich returned my life. The talented surgeon of the country! Ivan Ivanovich himself was a handsome man – tall, with a sense of humor, inspiring optimism and a successful outcome of the disease.

This person dear to me, came out and put me on my feet. For many months I was surrounded by kind people who treated children according to the calling of the heart. At that time, I firmly decided to become a medic. At least a nurse. This was my promise to Ivan Ivanovich.

I kept my promise! After graduating from high school, I simultaneously started working as a nurse in the department of pediatric surgery and studying. These were one-year courses for the training of nurses at the Taganrog City Healthcare Department. Ivan Ivanovich Babich was still in charge of pediatric surgery

At that time, the department of pediatric surgery was already in the emergency hospital (EMC), today it is in the children’s multidisciplinary hospital at 57 Lomakina Street.

A medical history that changed my whole life

I received my medical knowledge without leaving work! The course was unusual. The training classes were the departments of the emergency medical service.

If you studied human anatomy, the lecture was held in the hospital morgue with “live” material!

If the topic of the lecture is “childbirth,” then a group of students was in the delivery room. A year later, I became a nurse in pediatric surgery, as promised! Injections, pills, dressings and caring for sick children.

In the late 70s, there were no televisions in hospitals. On my shifts in the evening, I showed the children fairy tales-filmstrips. The screen was a sheet on the wall. That was great! Positive emotions helped to recover.

Before the demonstration of filmstrips, my children and I had a whole ritual: everyone had to take medicine, wash, brush their teeth and wash their feet. The children willingly fulfilled the conditions. After the film – lights out!

And so in all subjects. Knowledge was assimilated quickly. Practice means a lot when you see not a paper textbook, but a living person! But sometimes fainting occurred at lectures, more during childbirth than in the morgue …

A medical history that changed my whole life

Babich Ivan Ivanovich

(13.08.1917-21.10.1980, Taganrog) – Honored Doctor of the RSFSR. He graduated from the Donetsk Medical Institute in July 1941 and was sent to the army.

He served as a military doctor from the first to the last day of the Great Patriotic War. He graduated from the war with the rank of captain of the medical service. He was demobilized from the army in 1947.

In Taganrog, since 1947, he organized and headed the department of pediatric surgery. Highly qualified surgeon. He was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War I and II degrees, the Red Banner of Labor and medals.

Stairs

In this building, where I was reborn, is the Committee for Property Management of the city of Taganrog. Address: Grecheskaya Street, No. 58. Near the Stone Staircase leading to the sea.

A medical history that changed my whole life

The building of the former children’s hospital on Grecheskaya street, 58

All the offices used to be hospital wards. It is a pity that the old wooden staircase leading to the second floor has not survived.

The department was closed to the public. They were allowed only to the most seriously ill children. Parents were sitting on a wide wooden staircase with bundles for children. Sometimes some children were allowed to see their parents on this staircase.

A medical history that changed my whole life

This is what a modern staircase looks like

Last year I did not think to photograph the unique staircase, which I regret today. It was replaced with a new one, the width of which is half the size. What a pity…

Today many people criticize Russian medicine. But we have many good, talented doctors who go to work every day to restore life and health to people. As once, in pediatric surgery, they brought back my life. Here’s a case history … One second – is it a lot or a little?
