The feeling of satiety consists not only of this uncomfortable feeling of “too tight pants”. In the online magazine Cell we can read that the signals that travel between our gut and brain have just been discovered and that make us feel satiated after a protein-rich meal.

Food intake can be controlled by opioid receptors on the nerves that have been detected in the walls of the portal vein – the main blood vessel – that drains blood from the gut. Stimulating these receptors increases food intake while blocking them inhibits the desire to eat.
