The Scandinavian diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world. The proof of this claim is the fact that the Swedes, Danes and Norwegians are one of the few nations free from civilization diseases. The diet of the local population is rich in dark bread, seasonal vegetables and fish.

Scandinavian cuisine is eating habits dating back to the times of the Vikings, but in a modernized, modern version. A coherent element in the cuisine of the Danes, Swedes and Norway is that sea fish is most often prepared there and they are the basis of the daily diet. Due to the specific climate, they are stored in a special way, e.g. by preservation, smoking or drying.

Dark bread is best for health

In Poland, the most popular is light bread, which, however, does not have as many valuable nutritional values ​​as its wholegrain counterpart. In Scandinavia, the basis of the diet is the so-called vollkornbrot, which is characterized by a high content of beneficial fiber. If we do not have the opportunity to get this type of bread (although it may be available in health food stores), all you have to do is replace it with real wholemeal bread or crisps with increased fiber content. Why is dark bread so important? It accelerates the digestive processes, improves metabolism and prevents the accumulation of fat, which is great for people who need to lose extra pounds.

High quality meat

The type of meat eaten is also important in the Scandinavian diet. The inhabitants of Scandinavia are distinguished from other countries by the fact that they eat only minimal amounts of poultry meat, replacing them with the healthiest types of meat. The most popular types in this region are beef, game and lamb, which contain a lot of iron and vitamin B12.

Sea fish and seasonal vegetables

The basic ingredient in the Scandinavian diet is sea fish. According to its rules, we should eat fish even several times a week, because then we provide the body with the right amount of omega-3 fatty acids. They have a great effect on the whole body and have a positive effect on the skin and the whole figure.

Among the vegetables, due to the local climate, we will find primarily:

  • cabbage,
  • Beetroot,
  • carrot,
  • Brussels sprouts.

Why exactly these vegetables make the Scandinavian diet healthy and affecting weight loss?

Mainly due to the fact that they are very filling, thanks to which they prevent snacking between meals. What’s more, they are attributed anti-cancer properties, as they neutralize the action of free radicals.
