Sore throat, fever and cough are the most frequently mentioned symptoms of Omikron infection. However, there are more symptoms. Doctors warn against a rather unusual signal of the presence of this mutation in the body, sometimes the only one. You will notice it by watching your eyes. It is very important because there are more and more cases of Omikron in Poland.
- The three most commonly reported symptoms of Omikron are sore throat, fever and cough
- In Poland, 966 cases of Omikron have already been detected. On January 19, there were over 30 infections.
- In addition to the symptoms mentioned above, patients also report, inter alia, muscle or joint pain, rash, feeling or being sick, tiredness, light-headedness
- The London GP, Dr. Nisa Aslam, draws attention to a rather unusual signal of the presence of Omicron – conjunctivitis, the so-called «Pink eye»
- Why does the supervariant give such a symptom? Dr. Aslam points to the ACE-2 receptor and Omicron’s ability to bind to it (greater than other mutations)

The most common symptoms of Omikron infection
The omicron is spreading rapidly around the world. Currently, the supervisor is responsible for 59 percent. all SARS-CoV-2 infections. In Poland, the share of cases of Omikron infection is also growing day by day. 966 cases have already been detected in our country. It is the new variant that will be responsible for the next wave of infections in our country.
Today, there were 30 infections in total. 586 infections. This is an increase of 90 percent. week to week. More information here: Huge increase in the number of infections. Niedzielski: the situation is dramatic
The scenarios are beyond bad. The peak infection forecast for mid-February may be as much as 140. cases per day. So there is no doubt how important it is to know the symptoms associated with an Omikron infection and to react as quickly as possible.
- Delta or Omikron – how to recognize which variant infected us? Tips and important note
Analyzes of the UK Health Security Agency show that Omikron causes a sore throat more often than other variants of the coronavirus (53% of the studied cases), fever and cough (loss of smell or taste occurred less frequently than with previous mutations). Symptoms such as muscle or joint pain, rash, nausea or vomiting and fatigue have been reported approximately as frequently with Omikron as with Delta.

However, the list of symptoms accompanying infection with a super variant does not end there. The ZOE COVID Study Application, which registers reports from millions of British users (the project is led by Tim Spector – professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London), shows that lack of appetite, chest pain, hoarseness, light-headedness, “brain fog” (more about Omicron related symptoms). Dr. Nisa Aslam, GP in London, cautions against another unusual symptom that could indicate Omikron. It concerns the eyes.

“Pink eye” in Omicron infection. What is happening and why?
A symptom of Omikron infection may be conjunctivitis, also referred to as the so-called pink eye, meaning “pink eye”. This symptom was already observed at the beginning of the pandemic. We now know that it probably also applies to the Omicron.

How to recognize this symptom? The eyes look a lot like when we come out of a swimming pool filled with chlorinated water or from a smoky room – already in November 2020, Medonet was told by the ophthalmologist Dr. Anna Maria Ambroziak, MD.
The doctor advised to consult such signals with the doctor. – You should not be influenced by the fact that “it will pass by itself, because I can see well” – she said. – This is an important remark, because “pink eye” usually does not mean a simultaneous deterioration of visual acuity (we recall the conversation with Dr. Anna Maria Ambroziak, MD). Dr. Nisa Aslam notes that conjunctivitis may be the only sign of an Omicron infection.
How do you know all this? Scientists have already established that the coronavirus enters the cells of, among others, thanks to the so-called ACE2 receptors. – They are located in different parts of the eye, the cells lining the retina, the protein of the eye, the eyelid – Nisa Aslam explained in the Daily Express. Moreover, “a preliminary – yet to be reviewed – paper shows that the Omikron variant has a greater ability to bind to ACE-2 receptors compared to the Beta and Delta variants”. “This would suggest conjunctivitis may be a symptom of Omicron,” he admits.
