How to strengthen them? ‘ The latest research, which should become a guide for further steps, will help you decide which eating style to choose.

Research from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, published online in the Journal of the American Society of Nefrology, suggests that A diet high in animal protein, especially red meat, can worsen kidney disease. People who ate more fruit and vegetables and cut back on meat were three times less likely to suffer from failure. This is one of the best long-term studies on the effects of nutrition on kidney function in a large population. Data were collected from as many as 1486 adults with chronic kidney disease.

The authors of the study comment that when we eat animal protein, such as red meat, the body metabolizes it into acids. The kidneys produce substances that are targeted at getting rid of harmful compounds from the bodywhich can damage kidney function in the long run.

Donald Wesson, one of the authors of the study, has been studying the effects of diet on kidney disease for over 30 years. Research shows that for animals and humans, switching from a diet rich in animal proteins to a diet low in meat and high in fruit and vegetables works very well on kidney function. In addition, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers blood pressure, which is very beneficial for patients with chronic kidney disease.

Studies have confirmed that reducing meat is crucial not only for cancer prevention, but also for preventing kidney failure.
