Many of us decide to take a cold shower to relieve ourselves in hot weather. However, this is a very bad idea – argues Dr. Sarah Jarvis. When the cold water cools our body, we feel better at first, but afterwards, something unexpected happens.
Cold shower in hot weather
Another heat wave in Poland. According to forecasts, even 36 degrees Celsius can be expected. IMGW warns against heat, which for many are unbearable. During the day, the thought arises to take a cold shower.
However, this is not a good idea – says Dr. Sarah Jarvis, family doctor and television personality in Great Britain, who decided to warn viewers of “Good Morning Britain” on ITV. As he says, the body reacts by stopping blood flow when it feels that the temperature of the skin suddenly lowers. It does this to control and maintain the body’s internal temperature.
Stay hydrated at all times, but it’s especially important in hot weather. Water should be drunk regularly throughout the day, in small sips. At Medonet Market you can buy the Water Jug 1890 ml OstroVit water bottle, thanks to which you will not forget about drinking!
The same thing happens when we’re outside in winter. Blood flow to the skin is restricted. The skin turns pale, but thanks to this our organs maintain the right temperature. On the other hand, in hot weather, when the blood is circulating, it successfully removes excess heat. Then our skin may also turn slightly red. So right after you step out of the shower you will feel refreshed, but after a few minutes it will be worse than before taking a bath.
The National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute of the United States recommends taking a hot shower before going to bed on hot days. For many of us, the high temperature outside prevents us from falling asleep, and also causes us to wake up several times during the night. Warm water will make the body want to lower its temperature, which will certainly help many people fall asleep.
