A child of 8 months does not sleep well at night: wakes up, cries, turns and turns
A good night’s sleep plays an important role in the growth and development of your baby. But some parents are faced with the fact that a child of 8 months does not sleep well at night. There can be many reasons for this phenomenon. And in order to cope with the problem, you need to find out why the baby is restless.
Why does a child wake up at night
The norm for a baby at the age of 8 months is 13-15 hours of total sleep. In this case, the night time should be at least 10-12 hours, and the daytime – no more than 3 hours. If the child’s regime is very different from the norm, then, accordingly, the baby will often wake up and disturb the parents at night.
To fix this problem, you need to find out what caused this phenomenon. Moreover, there are several situations due to which the baby cries at night:
- The baby’s bed was moved to another room. At this age, children still do not tolerate the absence of parents, so their sleep can become restless.
- Too long naps. If the baby sleeps during the day, then do not be surprised that he tosses and turns at night.
- Incorrect diet. The baby may not get enough sleep due to hunger if he was poorly fed before bed.
- Stressful situations. If the baby has experienced some kind of shock during the day, then at night it can turn into nightmares.
- No fatigue. If the baby was not active enough during the day, then this is reflected in his night’s sleep.
Uncomfortable external conditions, such as heat or cold, as well as poor-quality diapers and uncomfortable bedding, can cause restless sleep.
What to do if your baby does not sleep well
The basic rules will help to normalize the baby’s sleep:
- The baby should be well fed before going to bed. This will avoid nighttime outbursts of hunger.
- At this age, the baby is better off sleeping in the same room with her parents.
- Remember to ventilate the room at night.
- Provide your child with full-fledged physical daytime activities. Then fatigue will do its job, and the baby will sleep peacefully until morning.
- You should not “walk”, otherwise the baby will be very overexcited, and this will affect his night’s sleep.
- Make sure that the daytime sleep does not last more than 3 hours. You do not need to lay the baby if he clearly does not want to.
Babies at the age of 8 months need to gradually accustom themselves to the alternation of sleep and wakefulness. Try to rock and lull your child less. He must learn to fall asleep on his own, then at night there will be less trouble with him.
