I am afraid that my child will be born sick.

I have a question, I’m 9 weeks pregnant. My child’s father is a cousin (i.e. his grandmother and my grandfather are siblings), therefore I would like to know if our child may be sick – Ania

Most likely everything will be fine, for safety reasons you should do prenatal tests and assess the fetal karyotype. The first prenatal test from 11 to 14 weeks of pregnancy is an ultrasound examination with the assessment of the risk of chromosomal aberrations of the fetus, ie defects such as Down, Edwards and Patau, and a biochemical test – a double test (blood test). I propose to consider a genetic test. Currently, you can determine the fetal karyotype from your blood test – HARMONY or NIFTY test. The test is non-invasive, which means it is completely safe, and there is no risk of pregnancy loss. Then you will be calm. The next prenatal examination is an ultrasound examination with the assessment of the structure of the baby’s organs. They are performed around the 20th week of pregnancy and then at the 30th week of pregnancy.
